Saint Louis University (SLU), through the Human Resource Department (HRD), the Information Systems And Technology Services Department (ISTSD), and the University Information Office (UIO), conducted a Web Content Management Orientation and Workshop on 23 October 2025 at Cardinal Cardijn Hall, Students’ Residence Hall, SLU Main Campus.
This collaborative workshop aimed to strengthen web content management skills among SLU unit heads and representatives, emphasizing the need to maintain a clear, user-friendly, and up-to-date university website that supports institutional goals and serves all its audiences and stakeholders effectively.
The event began with warm welcome remarks and acknowledgment of participants by Mr. Jeremy Lee Dela Cruz, HRD Director. He emphasized the crucial role each participant plays in shaping the university’s digital presence, highlighting that the website serves as the primary gateway through which the world perceives the University. Mr. Dela Cruz acknowledged the ongoing collaboration between the schools, offices, and web management teams and encouraged everyone to actively share their stories and achievements that convey SLU’s mission of excellence.

Following this, Atty. Johanne Margarette R. Macob, UI Officer, elaborated on the importance of the web content management orientation as a strategic initiative to build capacity within the university community. Expressing gratitude to all the units for the successful revamp of the SLU website’s main page, Atty. Macob said, “None of what we’ve accomplished would have been possible without the collaboration and support of all of you— whenever you allow us to take photos and clips of your facilities and resources, when we get to finally publish these materials, and everything in between. And today’s activity is yet another example of that shared effort.” She then encouraged active engagement to uphold and reflect the Louisian Brand of Excellence through SLU’s digital presence.

Joselito C. Gutierrez, PhD, Executive Assistant to the SLU President, led the first session focusing on aligning narrative reports and articles with the UN SDGs, CICM advocacies, and Laudato Si goals. He emphasized SLU’s deep commitment to sustainability by integrating these frameworks into the university’s communications and academic initiatives.
Dr. Gutierrez explained how linking reports and articles to these global goals reflects the university’s role in promoting ethical stewardship, social responsibility, and respect for nature. His session inspired participants to appreciate the significance of their role in communicating SLU’s sustainability efforts through clear, impactful web content that advances the institution’s mission and values

In the second session, Kaye Leah C. Sitchon from the UIO conducted an in-depth discussion on content writing specifically tailored for the WordPress platform and the SLU website. She shared about the best practices for effective web content writing, emphasizing clarity, credibility, and confidence that aligns with the institution’s mission, vision, and values. Attention was drawn to important aspects in web content development and optimization such as structuring articles using the inverted pyramid method of journalistic writing, integrating keywords for search engine optimization(SEO), and ensuring the content showcases academic excellence, innovation, faith-based values, and both global and local engagement. The discussion equipped contributors with the essential skills to develop impactful website content that enhances the university’s reach and reputation within both local and international academic communities.

Shortly after, Mr. Emmanuel Gregorio from the UIO led a practical session on navigating the SLU website templates specifically designed for the different schools. Mr. Gregorio presented the structured website template for schools that includes key pages namely: the school or unit’s overview, programs, faculty and staff, and other special features. He emphasized the use of high-quality photos for visual appeal and the inclusion of social media links for broader engagement. The session reinforced practical understanding of template functions like page linking, content updating, and maintaining consistency in web content, empowering the participants to efficiently manage their respective school web pages.

The capacity building initiative, facilitated by Mr. Aloysius Nacnac and the ISTSD team, then provided unit web content updaters/uploaders hands-on experience in updating web pages using the WordPress content management system as well as converting unit narrative reports into articles that match Saint Louis University’s content writing standards, brand message and tone.

The event concluded with an evaluation session led by the HRD, followed by closing remarks from ISTSD Chief Information Technology Officer, Cecilia Mercado, PhD, who emphasized the critical role of technology and sustainable development principles in enhancing SLU’s web presence.

This workshop demonstrated the synergy of SLU HRD, UIO, and ISTSD together with the various schools and units in steering advanced web content management skills while reinforcing SLU’s dedication to sustainable communication practices. It provided valuable knowledge and practical skills that will help SLU leaders and staff effectively contribute to the university’s digital communication and sustainability efforts.

The Web Content Management Orientation and Workshop closely aligns with several SDGs. It primarily supports SDG 4: Quality Education by building university personnel’s digital literacy and communication skills, essential for enhancing access to accurate, timely information and promoting lifelong learning globally. It also advocates for SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, emphasizing SLU’s commitment to sustainability, ethical stewardship, and fostering global cooperation to address environmental and social challenges. Thus, the workshop advances SLU’s mission by enhancing technical skills and promoting responsible digital communication for sustainable development, deeply rooted in the CICM advocacies of justice, peace, and care for the environment as well as dialogue, which guide the university’s commitment to purposeful excellence.
