On 16 October 16, 2024, the Saint Louis University (SLU) Medical Outreach Missions Fellowship Initiative (MOMFI) under the School of Medicine (SOM) provided medical care to the residents of Km. 5, La Trinidad, Benguet and nearby barangays.
In nine hours, a total of 259 beneficiaries, comprising 251 adults and 8 pediatric patients were successfully given medical attention through the guidance of, Internist, Dr. Robert E. Tolentino and General Practitioner, Alexander O. Ulbinado. Medical interns and students from the SLU MOMFI administered consultation, eye and ear check-up and patient education including provisions of medical consultation, ear cleaning and flushing, testing of visual acuity, patient education, and dispensing of free prescribed medications to the community.
The outreach was sponsored by Aboitiz Power in partnership with the Municipal Health Office (MHO) of La Trinidad, Benguet. Aboitiz Power delivered the needed medicine as requested by the MHO.
This mission exemplified the SLU MOMFI’s dedication to addressing the healthcare requirements of underserved communities with compassion and teamwork by providing essential healthcare services, such as consultations, physical examinations, and treatment planning giving primary and holistic care to the patients.
SLU MOMFI’s ambition to be of service to underserved people reflects the in the university’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) mainly targeting: SDG 3: Good Health and Wellbeing, SDG 10: Reduced Inequality, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
