The New Louisian Philosophical Society (NEOLOUPHIS), the student organization of the Philosophy Department of the Saint Louis University (SLU) School of Teacher Education and Liberal Arts (STELA) conducted two outreach projects under Project Kuwago namely, Project Mangkok held on 18 October 2025, and Project Dunong, a book donation drive held on 20 October 2025.
Project Mangkok was a feeding program conducted in Brgy. Lourdes promoted health among children by providing them with nutritious meals aiming not only to develop cognitive abilities but also to boost physical well-being as a significant aspect to consider in children’s holistic growth.
On the other hand, Project Dunong was the organization’s first ever Book Donation Drive launched at Brgy. Lourdes and Brgy. Poliwes, Baguio City. This project was oriented towards providing children with learning resources such as books aimed for children to immerse themselves in reading as a vital factor in education. This project materialized through the help of our generous partners: the US-Ph Library under the care of Anna Grace M. Cabanilla, the Project Proponent: Dr. Rufo de Leon, and book sponsors, Dr. Kathleen Wilson and Ms. Sandy Mckielski.
Having implemented these outreach activities, NEOLOUPHIS affirmed SLU’s core values. For Compassion, help was extended to children who were in need of support and assistance. For Innovation, the organization engaged in creative works that geared towards the betterment of the communities. For Competence, the Philosophy student leaders harnessed their knowledge and skills in handling vulnerable populations through workshops held with the Center for Counseling and Wellness. Lastly, Christian Spirit where the organization amplified Christian values and missionary spirit by going out and using platforms wisely with the intention of reaching out.
Moreover, this initiative demonstrated NEOLOUPHIS’s renewed commitment to community work within the organization. To ensure effective implementation and enhance the quality of education, officers participated in various trainings and workshops. This reflected their eagerness and urgency to serve, embodying a pursuit of true wisdom that transcends intellectual growth through books and theories. These activities were a realization of what books and theories urge one to do, which is to act and help, manifested through Project Kuwago.
SLU NEOLOUPHIS’s initiative is aligned with United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals 1 (No Poverty), 2 (Zero Hunger), 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), and 17 (Partnership for the Goals).
