Saint Louis University (SLU) was recognized as one of the institutional members of the Philippine Association of Communication Educators (PACE), through the School of Teacher Education and Liberal Arts (STELA) and Languages and Communication (LangComm) Department, during the 50th Anniversary celebration held at the University of the Philippines – Los Baños (UPLB) last 23-25 October 2025.


With the theme, “#PACE50: Empowering Voices in Emergent and Divergent Space,” the first day was enjoined by 3rd-year BA Communication students comprising of Alenah Sabaten, Ren Chester Garcia, Mary Angeline Sacedon, Gian Carlo Andres, Gian Rafael Bambalan, Aneeza Amor Dela Cruz, Angela Faye Dimapilis, Satur Boy Gawec, Tatiana Yamaya Paguio, Kristel Reyes, Kasandra Mikylla Santos, Ina Jirah Serquiña, Kasheem Andrei Siborboro, and Hanz Andrew Viloria, who presented their community project, “The Comm Chronicle Newsletter,” a journalistic newsletter that amplified the voices of the Louisian community, during the PACE of the Future Student Camp (PFSC) on 23 October 2025.

Two teams of 4th-year BA Communication students also participated in the PACE – Communication and Media Studies Conference (CMSC) 2025 Parallel Sessions at the Obduila F. Sison Hall, UPLB, on 24 October 2025.
Under the guidance of BA Communication faculty and thesis adviser Prof. Janet S. Tibaldo, LPT, PhD, the research paper “OVER ENTERTAINED AND UNDER INFORMED? A Critical Analysis of Media Consumption in the Philippines” was presented by Nica Antonette Abrenica, Marielle Kassandra Louise Baes, Ramia Yezza De Mesa, Cherrie Lyza Galazi, Danielle Ann Laluan, Nathan Andrei Pabelonia, Ma. Airalez Pancho, Jovan Quincy Pascua, and Karyl Claire Tad-awan during the Parallel Session 3B with the theme, “Social and Campus Journalism: Practices and Issues.”

Moreover, under the tutelage of thesis adviser Prof. Sally P. Tabec, LPT, PHD the study entitled “The Impact of Doomscrolling on the Digital Literacy Competency of BA Communication Students at Saint Louis University” was presented by Clark Justin Alenso, John Erick Cortez, Cale Franclin Cruz, Jirah Garing, Jaeda Antonette Pad-eng, Iomi Hailey Silvestre, Hannah Leonor Torio, and Reijn Albert Vir Valdez during the Parallel Session 4A with the theme, “Exploring Spirituality, Activism, and Creativity within Digital Media’s Affordances.”

Concluding the three-day celebration of #PACE50, SLU’s Plaque of Recognition was received by Jara Marie Bueno, BA Communication alumna and instructor, on behalf of the STELA Languages and Communication Department Head Joselita M. Ferrer, LPT, PhD, during the Anniversary Gala Night, Homecoming, and Recognition Ceremony at the UPLB Charles Fuller Baker Memorial Hall on the night of October 25 (Saturday).

The celebration highlighted the recognition of the association’s presidents, partnerships, and institutions throughout the five decades of its foundation, along with the induction ceremonies of the newly elected PACE Board of Trustees for 2025-2027, of which Dr. Tibaldo has been a member since 2013.
PACE is a non-profit professional organization committed to uplifting communication education and media practice in the Philippines. SLU, as an institutional member of PACE, furthers the goal of envisioning excellence in education and social change. This event and partnership are aligned with the CICM Advocacy of Dialogue as well as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 4 (Quality Education), 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), and 17 (Partnership for the Goals).
