The New Louisian Philosophical Society (NEOLOUPHIS) of Saint Louis University, in collaboration with the University Libraries (UNL) and American Corner Baguio (AC Baguio), conducted additional lectures in the continuation of the Experience USA and Information Session and Research Workshop and Discourse Series on 28 November 2025 at AC Baguio, Msgr. Charles Vath Building, SLU main campus.
Marking the third session of the series, the event offered a profound exploration of the “what” and “why” of meaningful research. This workshop, a major initiative under Project Innovation, featured two respected speakers in the field of research.
Prof. Dennis Daw-as, PhD, laid the essential foundation for research writing. Using his own publications as examples, he shared valuable advice on how to craft comprehensive and engaging research. His discussion highlighted the crucial question of “what” in the research process.

Meanwhile, Prof. John Amtalao, PhD, deepened the discourse in his session titled “Research of/in Filipino in the University.” He strongly emphasized that research must serve the needs of the community and the nation, not remain confined within academia. He asserted the importance of writing in Filipino so that research can be easily understood and meaningfully applied by a wider number of Filipinos. He encouraged a collaborative shift toward pantayong pananaw (a perspective centered on the Filipino collective), where studies are directed toward serving the country rather than merely seeking external recognition.

Through these sessions, students were further honed not only in technical aspects but also in becoming critical and purposeful in their goals.
In addition, American Corner Baguio provided insights on how to pursue studies abroad.
This series stands as proof of NEOLOUPHIS’ steadfast and unwavering dedication to Quality Education (SDG 4) and to strengthening Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17). It also reflects adherence to the CICM Advocacy of Dialogue and the Louisian mission to mold Filipinos with excellence, compassion, and Christian values.
As the series continues, the pursuit of true wisdom remains alive—wisdom that does not merely exist in books and theories but is lived out through action and service. (Written by John Remar Gayla and Alyya Hebron, NEOLOUPHIS)
