Saint Louis University (SLU) sustained its winning streak through its achievements on sustainability and internationalization initiatives during the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Internationalization Champions of Nation-Building and Sustainability (ICONS) Awards 2025, held at the Jose Rizal Hall, Philippine International Convention Center, Pasay City, Metro Manila.
SLU championed the Sustainability Award 2025 for the Private Higher Education Institutions Category for the project “Banangan Women Ube-Based Food Products Project: Empowering Women, One Purple Yam at a Time” that was recognized for its outstanding commitment to sustainability, evidenced by the pioneering integration of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) across core institutional functions.

Also, SLU, once again, won 1st Runner-Up in the Global Citizenship Award 2025 for the Private Higher Education Institutions Category for the project titled “From Local Roots to Global Opportunities: SLU’s Pathways Beyond Borders” that fostered intercultural understanding, empowering changemakers, and inspiring active global citizenship.

Further, as the Internationalization Leadership Awardee of 2024, Rev. Fr. Gilbert B. Sales, CICM, PhD is set to give an address, to highlight SLU’s efforts on integral global engagement. He will underscore University’s involvement in the national complementary pathways, ASEAN International Mobility of Students, Southeast Asian Teacher (SEA)-Teacher Project, Association of the Southeast and East Asian Catholic Colleges and Universities (ASEACCU) International Conference, among others.
SLU President Rev. Fr. Sales, Vice President for Academic Affairs Felina P. Espique, PhD, and Director of the Office of Institutional Development and Quality Assurance (OIDQA) Mr. Hector Martin accepted the awards on behalf of the university.
CHED holds its annual ICONS Awards to celebrate Philippine Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) for their crucial role in championing the country’s higher education sector on the international stage.
The ICONS Awards 2025 once again recognized the exemplary performance of Philippine HEIs as they continue to strengthen their presence in renowned global ranking tables. The ceremony also served as a key platform for highlighting high-impact initiatives in sustainability, ASEAN awareness, and internationalization, as well as the visionary leaders who turned these priorities into tangible achievements and milestones.
