The Social Work Department of Saint Louis University’s School of Teacher Education and Liberal Arts (STELA) successfully concluded its series of specialized In-Service Trainings on 3 December 2025, bringing together SLU Social Work faculty, alumni, fellow Social Work educators from the Ifugao State University (IFSU) Social Work Department, Pangasinan State University (PSU), Urdaneta City University (UCU), Prime Movers Society (PMS) officers and members, and partner agencies in a collaborative effort to strengthen evidence-based and compassionate social work practice.
The training series—designed to enhance faculty competence in research, statistics, and counseling—featured two online sessions on Social Work Research and Social Work Statistics held on 20 November 2025, followed by the face-to-face Social Work Counseling Training on 3 December 2025.The counseling session was conducted in collaboration with the American Corner Baguio, SLU.




We extend our deep appreciation to our resource speakers, Prof. Angelito Meneses, PhD, Department of Social Work, University of the Philippines-Diliman, Nicamil Sanchez, PhD, CEO of start-up tech company Philippine Consortium for Social Welfare and Human Development Research, Inc., and Desiree Anonat, PhD, Dean of the Columban College Social Work Department and re-elected Vice-President of North Luzon National Association for Social Work Education, Inc. (NASWEI) Cluster, who served as the resource speaker for the Social Work Counseling Training. Their expertise enriched the sessions with practical, field-based insights essential to the realities of social welfare practice in the Philippines.
These initiatives aim to:
• strengthen faculty capability in conducting and teaching social work research and statistics;
• support educators in producing quality, publishable research; and
• enhance competence in counseling and therapeutic communication for casework, group work, and community organizing.
Aligned with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 4 (Quality Education) and 17 (Partnership for the Goals), the Social Work Department remains committed to continuous capacity-building to ensure that social work education at SLU remains relevant, practice-oriented, and responsive to the needs of communities we serve.
