In a collaborative effort to elevate early childhood education, Saint Louis University (SLU) partnered with the Local Government Unit of San Quintin to conduct a specialized training workshop on Instructional Material Preparation for Child Development Workers on 28 May 2026 at the National Child Development Center (NCDC), Municipal Hall Compound, Barangay Poblacion, San Quintin, Pangasinan.
The training focused heavily on the vital role of designing multisensory instructional materials that are strictly aligned with the Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) curriculum. Recognizing that toddlers and preschoolers learn best by interacting with their environment, the program emphasized hands-on learning aids that stimulate sight, touch, and hearing. By aligning these tangible materials with standardized ECCD lessons, teachers can better support cognitive development, improve retention, and cater to young children’s diverse learning styles, effectively transforming abstract concepts into accessible, playful learning experiences.

The community-led initiative was spearheaded by SLU President Rev. Fr. Gilbert B. Sales, CICM, alongside Rev. Fr. Emery E. Mwako, CICM, Vice President for Mission and Identity, and San Quintin Municipal Mayor Farah Lee Lumahan. This strategic partnership underscores a shared commitment to grassroots educational development, equipping local child development educators with the necessary tools to foster more dynamic, engaging, and inclusive learning environments for the municipality’s youngest learners.
Serving as the primary resource speakers and trainers were seasoned Kindergarten Teachers from SLU Laboratory Elementary School, Mrs. Claire Lupos and Mrs. Mary Ann Ogues, who shared their expertise and practical classroom strategies with the participants. The intensive training sessions were seamlessly facilitated by Joselito C. Gutierrez, PhD (Executive Assistant to the SLU President), Mrs. Delia Quero (Municipal Social Welfare Development Officer), and Mr. Anthony David L. Neri (Social Welfare Officer). Through this successful transfer of knowledge, San Quintin’s Child Development Teachers return to their classrooms empowered with upgraded skills and newly crafted resources, ready to uplift early education in the municipality, aligned with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education, as well as CICM Advocacy on Justice and Peace.
