On 25 June 2026, the Saint Louis University (SLU) Human Resource Department (HRD) conducted a learning session on Employee Engagement for section and unit heads, supervisors, and senior employees, including the SLU-Sacred Heart Medical Center (SLU-SHMC). The activity aimed to strengthen participants’ understanding of the role of leadership in fostering employee well-being and organizational excellence.
Ms. Jean Karen G. Jaime, Assistant HRD Director, welcomed the participants and emphasized that employee engagement requires intentional leadership and a shared commitment to creating meaningful workplace experiences.
The session, facilitated by Mrs. Sylvia Jane D. Ladrillo, HR Consultant and Training Facilitator at JenMen Management, Inc., highlighted employee engagement as the emotional commitment employees have toward their work, team, and organization. Through interactive discussions, she shared practical strategies to strengthen engagement, emphasizing that “employee engagement is more than satisfaction; it is commitment in action… Disengagement is not always announced loudly but can also be reflected in silent predispositions, and that the greatest engagement risks are often the least visible.”

In his synthesis and closing remarks, Mr. Jeremy Lee L. Dela Cruz, HR Director, reminded participants that “our biggest responsibility is our people” and that “engagement is not built on memos, policies, or any documents but is built through daily interactions and consistent leadership.”
The activity reaffirmed the importance of people-centered leadership in cultivating an engaged and thriving workforce, in support of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions.
