To build stronger connections with Filipinos around the world, Saint Louis University (SLU) welcomed Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) Chairperson Dante “Klink” M. Ang II on 29 July 2026 at the Alejandro Roces Boardroom, Fr. Jose Burgos Administrative Center, SLU Main Campus.
As the first institution visited by Chairperson Ang in line with the opening of the CFO’s new office in Bokawkan, Baguio City, SLU, led by University President Rev. Fr. Gilbert B. Sales, CICM, PhD, had the opportunity to discuss meaningful collaborations that could benefit Filipinos living and working abroad.
During the meeting, Chairperson Ang emphasized the CFO’s vision of strengthening ties with non-resident Filipinos through three key pillars: political engagement, economic participation, and cultural connection. These pillars reflect the Commission’s commitment to ensuring that Filipinos overseas remain actively involved in the country’s growth while preserving their Filipino identity.

One of the notable initiatives shared was the CFO’s effort to encourage Filipino-Americans to consider retiring in the Philippines, recognizing the opportunities to invest, contribute to local communities, and reconnect with their homeland.
Meanwhile, SLU presented its vision of connecting overseas Filipino nursing professionals with students through online teaching and mentoring. This initiative, in collaboration with the Philippine Nurses Association of America (PNAA) and the CFO, aims to provide students with valuable international perspectives while allowing Filipino healthcare professionals abroad to give back to future generations of nurses.
The discussion also explored scholarship opportunities and potential collaboration through the Lingkod sa Kapwa Pilipino (LINKAPIL) Program, which enables Filipinos abroad to support education, healthcare, livelihood, disaster response, and other community development initiatives through donations and partnerships.

Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals No. 10 (Reduced Inqualities), 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), the meeting highlighted the shared commitment to strengthening the bond between the Philippines and its global Filipino community. By fostering partnerships in education, professional development, and community service, initiatives like these demonstrate how collaboration can create meaningful opportunities for both Filipinos overseas and those at home.
As the CFO expands its presence in Northern Luzon with its new Baguio office, partnerships with institutions like SLU represent an important step toward empowering Filipinos worldwide to remain engaged, connected, and invested in the nation’s future.
