In celebration of National Children’s Month in November 2025, the Saint Louis University (SLU) Sunflower Pedagogical and Development Center (SPDC) conducted the Parenting Pathway Program centered on the topic, “Positive Parent-Child Relationships.”
On 08 November 2025, participants were privileged to learn from Marilyn Lorente-Balmeo, PhD who facilitated a session on fostering healthy behaviors that strengthen positive parent-child relationships. An experienced educator and Special Education (SPED) professional, Dr. Balmeo currently serves as a professor of education at SLU. Drawing on her expertise, she shared valuable insights and practical strategies that parents can use to nurture stronger, more positive relationships with their children.
The Parenting Pathway is one of the SPDC’s core programs, providing a welcoming and supportive space where parents of children with special needs can come together to learn, share experiences, and grow alongside one another. Through meaningful discussions and practical learning sessions, the program empowers parents with the knowledge, skills, and encouragement they need as they navigate their parenting journey.
Aligned with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), 4 (Quality Education), and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), the Parenting Pathway continues to reaffirm SPDC’s commitment to supporting families by creating opportunities for connection and empowerment, ensuring that every parent and guardian is equipped to help their child thrive.
