In the recent Hydrographic Surveying Facilities Complimentary Activity, SLU BS Geodetic Engineering students were privileged to take what they’ve covered in their classes and get a first-hand experience of the work and facilities their future profession calls for. The activity included a one-week National Mapping and Resource Information Authority (NAMRIA) seminar on in-depth hydrographic surveying.
During the tour, we were divided into two separate groups. In the first group, NAMRIA Lieutenants took the students on a tour of the ship’s facilities, transmitters, charts, and more while providing a lecture on what and how they operated. The second group, with is the audio group, was able to participate in a discussion about the instruments of single and multi-beam echo sounders that were tackled in the face-to-face and online classes.
The NAMRIA employees were thrilled to host the session and awarded prizes to students actively participating in the activities.
