On December 19, 2022, the teaching and non-teaching personnel from the elementary and high school departments held their maiden Christmas party as members of the One Basic Education family at the LES Gonzaga Gym with the theme, “Paskong Makulay,” which was also attended by SLU officials Fr. Gilbert B. Sales and Dr. Roberto M. Arguelles.
The day was opened through a penitential rite that served as a reminder for each one to prepare one’s own heart for the coming of Jesus at Christmas time. In his homily, Fr. Gilbert B. Sales, CICM emphasized on thinking of JOY during the holidays: Jesus, Others, and You. Everyone was also reminded of the sacrifices required by our Catholic institution’s mission. Father President greatly stressed that as teachers, it is everyone’s responsibility to spread Christ’s love and justice throughout the world.

The Christmas program immediately followed wherein some elementary school teachers led an energizing wellness activity. The gym was filled with fun and laughter by the employees themselves as there was lively band music, games, a raffle, and exchanging of gifts to entertain everyone. The parent associations (Family Council and Parents Advisory Council) also took this chance to distribute food packs and gifts to the maintenance and security personnel of the school as part of their social involvement program. An inspirational message was given by Dr. Arguelles, the VP for Academic Affairs, wherein he conveyed his message of appreciation, gratitude, and hope to everyone.

This activity was a perfect way to conclude the year and celebrate the birth of Jesus with gratitude and humility in one’s heart. Simple yet meaningful gatherings like this at our school contribute to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, especially on good health and well-being, peace, justice, institutions, and strong partnerships in addition to providing everyone with unforgettable experiences and lasting memories.
