The School of Advanced Studies and the School of Engineering and Architecture hosted a public lecture by Professor JC Gaillard on “The Archipelago of Disasters: Research, Responses and More” (Ang Kapuluan at Kalamidad: Pananaliksik, Pagtugon at Iba Pa) in support of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set forth by Saint Louis University (SLU) through its SDG Center and in partnership with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
Professor Gaillard is currently associated with the University of Auckland and the UP Resilience Institute, and his current research interests span in disaster studies, postcolonial studies, Philippine studies, and teaching and learning.
Staff from the Baguio City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM), La Trinidad DRRM, Benguet DRRM, Mountain Province DRRM offices, the Department of Social Welfare and Development Cordillera Administrative Region (DSWD CAR) Field Office, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) CAR, Police Regional Office Cordillera (PRO-COR), Local Government Unit (LGU) Baguio, faculty from SLU and the University of Baguio, and Mountain Province Broadcasting Corporation DZWT attended the seminar.
