With the theme “Preparing Future Radiologic Technologist in the Challenging and Evolving Medical World,” the Department of Radiologic Technology of Saint Louis University conducted its 7th Pinning Ceremony last 7 May 2023, at the Prince Bernhard Gym, Saint Louis University (SLU), Main Campus.
The ceremony commenced with Dean Ann P. Opina warmly welcoming the distinguished guests and parents, setting the stage filled with inspiration and reflection. An invocation conveyed through a moving video presentation with a voice-over prayer by Mr. Dionisio Noel T. Valbuena created a serene atmosphere for the attendees.
Meanwhile, Dr. Luisito B. Boado, a guest speaker from Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGH-MC), took the stage to share his life experiences, aiming to inspire the Radiologic Technology (RT) students to pursue their dreams and aspirations in the challenging medical world.
The event’s highlight was the pinning ceremony, which included a heartfelt surprise tribute to the parents. Dr. Mariflor V. Valbuena, the head of the Department of Radiologic Technology, provided a profound insight into the significance and symbolism of pinning, encouraging students to reflect on their future roles as radiologic technologists.
A candle ceremony illuminated the importance of RT students as “light bearers,” emphasizing their responsibility to share their knowledge and care with patients and those in need. This ceremony reminded them of their critical role in the healthcare community.
The pinning ceremony marks a milestone in the student’s commitment to lifelong learning and professionalism. It signifies that the recipients have achieved the required “character and competence” to engage in clinical practice. It also reminds them of their efforts and sacrifices in pursuing this stage of their academic life through engagement in quality education. This includes their preparatory endeavor as future healthcare team members with the hope of making a difference in the lives of others.
Further, with their parents and professors as witnesses, this activity enhances the students’ good health and well-being through emotional and psychological development. It further instills in them the importance of upholding the CICM advocacy of justice by critically and creatively handling radiation to optimize the diagnosis and treatment of patients. The pinning ceremony reminds them to do their best in caring for the patients and the people they will encounter in their clinical practice, guided by the university’s core values.
