Saint Louis University is one of the recipients of the DOST STARBOOKS Champion Partners award that was given on June 15, 2023, at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), during the exclusive appreciation event that celebrates STARBOOKS’ 12th Anniversary. Dr. Joselito C. Gutierrez, EAP; Mr. Alejandro Pablico, Principal-SLU BEdS and representing Basic Schools in CAR; and Dr. Stephenie O. Busbus, Chair, Institutional Reputation and Effectiveness received the recognition on behalf of the SLU Community.
With the theme, “Pagpupugay sa mga BIDA ng STARBOOKS,” the event gathered the STARBOOKS community to celebrate accomplishments and honor the individuals and organizations who have been instrumental in the journey of the STARBOOKS project.
In the spirit of collaboration rooted on shared civic and academic goals, SLU ( (for Catholic and Private Schools in CAR) signed the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with DOST- Science and Technology Information Institute, and DOST – CAR on May 9, 2023, at the Fr. Francis Gevers Hall, Saint Louis University.
The agreement resulted in a users and administrators training by DOST-STII, as well as deployment of STARBOOKS to about 40 affiliate Private and Catholic elementary and high schools of SLU through the collaboration between Rev. Fr. Gilbert B. Sales, CICM, SLU President and Director Richard Burgos of DOST-STII. The initiative continues to help bring quality education to the region.
Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly-Operated KioskS (STARBOOKS) provide stand-alone information sources for people without access to S&T information resources. The project aims to provide students and other constituents in economically-challenged schools and communities with STI-based content in various formats. The STARBOOKS technology library contains thousands of digitized science and technology books, videos, and audio files.
