In a remarkable endeavor to enhance their practical skills and gain valuable experience in the field of biology, 78 dedicated interns from the Bachelor of Science in Biology of the School of Nursing, Allied Health, and Biological Studies (SONAHBS) have successfully finished their internship program from different areas. The interns were deployed to various government institutions across Baguio, La Trinidad, and Dagupan City, where they completed 180 hours of duty from 13 June to 20 July 2023.
These student biologists were assigned to seven different Host Training Establishments (HTEs), each offering a unique environment for learning and growth:
- Integrated Laboratories Division – Department of Agriculture – CAR , Dontogan, Baguio City
- Environmental Management Bureau – DENR, Gibraltar, Baguio City
- Watershed and Water Resources Research, Development and Extension Center, Loakan, Baguio City
- Northern Philippines Root Crops Research and Training Center – Benguet State University, La Trinidad
- Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources – CAR, La Trinidad Station
- Department of Science and Technology – CAR, La Trinidad
- National Fisheries Development Center – Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources – DA, Bonuan-Binloc, Dagupan City
The biology internship program was designed to provide students with a hands-on learning experience, offering practical exposure to laboratory and field research procedures, safety practices, sampling techniques, and the measurement of biological characteristics. Moreover, this program also provides learning opportunities not available in the Biology Department curriculum, by allowing the interns to apply biology in the work environment and to assess an occupation as a potential career choice.
