In view of Saint Louis University’s significant milestones and experiences in applying for international rankings and ratings with WURI, QS Stars, QS Asia Ranking, THE, and AppliedHE in AY 2022-2023, SLU was given the opportunity to share its best practices as Resource Persons at the Filipino Leaders in Advancing International Reputation – FLAIR Kuminwani Masterclass 2023 held at Cordillera Career Development College, Buyagan, La Trinidad, Benguet, from August 2 to 4, 2023.
Now in its second cycle, FLAIR 2.0’s theme is “The Cordillera to the World Today and Beyond: International Rankings and Ratings of Higher Education Institutions,” which expands borders in CHED CAR’s commitment to preserving the cultural heritage of the Cordillera region, fostering educational excellence, and embracing global integration.
Dr. Stephenie O. Busbus, the Institutional Reputation and Recognitions Chair, OIDQA, and Graduate Program Coordinator of SLU School of Advanced Studies, gave a talk on “THE Impact Ranking Application Process and Methodology” that centered on how SLU navigated ranking applications by establishing the institutional processes and directions needed to work towards strengthening global higher education and international visibility.
Mr. Hector L. Martin, Director of the Office of Institutional Development and Quality Assurance, discussed “QS Ranking Application Process and Methodology.” The perspectives he shared were from an administrative and management vantage point in terms of what HEIs will expect in terms of establishing ownership for rankings applications within the university offices, units, and the Louisian workforce, as a whole.
The knowledge-sharing conversations at the FLAIR Kuminwani Masterclass were held with 15 Philippine Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in CAR and Region 1, including Abra Institute of Sciences and Technology, Apayao State College, Benguet State University, Cordillera Career Development College, Easter College Inc., Ifugao State University, Kalinga State University, Kings College of the Philippines, Mountain Province State Polytechnic College, Pines City Colleges, Saint Louis University, Saint Tonis College, University of Baguio, University of the Cordilleras, Urdaneta City University, and Virgen Milagrosa University Foundation.

CHED CAR FLAIR Kuminwani Masterclass 2023: FLAIR 2.0 is now CFLAIR
As the Cordillera Administrative Region solidifies its position as the Educational Center of the North, the FLAIR masterclass serves as an inspiring beacon. FLAIR 2.0 is CFLAIR which means – Cordillera’s Fierce Leaders Achieving International Recognition. This initiative serves as an opportunity to expand partnerships with higher education institutions outside the region.
The following are CFLAIR’s objectives:
- To gain a comprehensive understanding of the processes and methodologies used in QS, THE, and WURI Rankings.
- To comprehend and apply strategies for enhancing research publications and citations, addressing one of the primary weaknesses of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in international rankings.
- To bolster home internationalization efforts by establishing and nurturing local and international linkages.
- To cultivate a forward-thinking institutional perspective regarding internationalization and its implications on the institution’s future.
Expected Outputs of the 2023 FLAIR Masterclass are:
- International ranking map and targets
- Populated the Kabadang Research Hub
- Internationalization Scenarios
FLAIR recognizes the importance of global integration, where local knowledge systems and perspectives are respectfully shared and intertwined with the broader international academic community. This endeavor came to fruition through the collaborative efforts of CHED IAS and CHEDCAR, illuminating the region’s dedication to educational advancement.
