The Medical Outreach Mission Fellowship Initiative (MOMFI) provided free medical services to the people of Umangan, Mangatarem, Pangasinan on 7 August 2023. The mission was supported by Agkapita Coffee Shop, a coffee shop known to be in the middle of a rice field.
A team of medical student volunteers from MOMFI, guided by Dr. Robert Tolentino, MOMFI faculty adviser and an internist, Dra. Leonora Benedito, an OB-gynecologist for maternal and reproductive health, Dr. Emerson Benedito, a general practitioner, and honorary members, gave free consultations, minor surgeries, and major surgeries to 268 patients which included 166 adults with 19 OB-gyn patients and 2 excisions, 72 pediatric patients, and 53 circumcision patients.
The outreach mission was able to target Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG 3): Good Health and Wellbeing; SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities; and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals. It was also aligned with the target CICM advocacy for Justice and Indigenous People.
This medical outreach mission is a testament to the commitment of MOMFI to providing healthcare services to those who need it most. It is also a reminder of the importance of partnerships in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
