Through the mandate of SLU President, Rev. Fr. Gilbert B. Sales, CICM, as the Regional Program Director of PEAC-CAR and Council Member of CEAP-CAR, in ensuring that all private and Catholic schools in the region comply with the upgrades needed in lesson delivery in consonance with DepEd, PEAC, and CEAP thrusts, the SLU School of Teacher Education and Liberal Arts through Dr. Felina Espique was commissioned to prepare a CEAP-CAR seminar-workshop on upgrading their curricular preparation. As a result, the 3-day seminar, “Upgrading Learning Delivery of Private and Catholic Schools,” was conducted, providing CPD credit units for all attendees.
Dr. Joselito Gutierrez, Executive Assistant to the President, PEAC Regional Coordinator, and CEAP Program Coordinator, was the overseer of the seminar with the assistance of the CEAP Council Officers. The activity was held in two sessions at Saint Louis University: July 20-22 for the teachers of the Vicariates of Tabuk and Bontoc-Lagawe and July 27-29 for the teachers of the Diocese of Baguio, Benguet, and other private schools in the region. A total of 247 basic education teachers benefitted from this seminar-workshop.
The topics and speakers were:
- “Framework in Upgrading Lesson Delivery for Private and Catholic Schools, Curriculum Mapping and Alignment, and Upgraded Learning Delivery:” Dr. Joi C. Gutierrez;
- “Designing Authentic Assessments Using the MELCs:” Dr. Felina P. Espique;
- “Learner-centered Teaching Strategies through MELCs:” Dr. Stephenie O. Busbus;
- “The Need to Upgrade the Learning Delivery through the MELCs:” Dr. Geraldine S. Wakat.
The seminar-workshop targeted UNSDGs 3 (Good Health and Well-being), 4 (Quality Education), 10 (Reducing Inequalities), 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions); CEAP Advocacy on Justice and Peace, Youth Empowerment, and Engaged Citizenship; and CICM Advocacy on Justice and Peace and Indigenous Peoples’ Apostolate.
