A hundred Louisians were among the recipients of educational assistance from the Provincial Government of Quirino through its Youth Development Program.
On 07 December 2023, the Quirino Student Organization (QSO) of Saint Louis University (SLU) Baguio Chapter led the release of educational assistance to students of different Universities in the City who hail from Quirino Province.
Held at the Moot Court of Diego Silang Building, SLU Main Campus, students from SLU, University of the Cordilleras, University of Baguio, and Pines City College gathered as scholarship beneficiaries after passing the requirements of the Provincial Government of Quirino.
In his welcome speech, SLU President, Rev. Fr. Gilbert B. Sales, CICM, encouraged the recipients of the educational assistance to be motivated further to pursue excellence not only for their own good, but also for the good of others. Fr. Sales also thanked the benefactor as he remarked, “It cannot be even emphasized that scholarship programs, such as the one you have, are highly vital and meaningful. The educational assistance does not only equate to its monetary amount—it is tantamount to dreams being built and supported, to lives being positively changed, to individuals and families perceiving flickers of light and hope.”
Ms. Maria Sofia Espiritu, the secretary of QSO SLU-Baguio Chapter, also talked about how the student’s contributions benefit the Quirinian students, and how the generosity shown strengthens equality in the country’s development.
Present in the release of educational assistance was Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) Chairperson Hon. Junie E. Cua of Quirino Province. PCSO’s presence in the event recognized Quirinian-Louisians’s ongoing application of educational assistance with the national agency, which is expected to be released through SLU. In this light, Chairperson Cua expressed that education is a powerful and transformative way to ensure that students are given equal opportunities in education and in society.
The program marked a significant step towards regional cooperation in the commitment to uplift educational standards in Quirino and in the region as a whole.
