Ten Louisians from the School of Nursing, Allied Health, and Biological Sciences (SONAHBS) and School of Medicine (SOM) of Saint Louis University (SLU) hailed in the Writing Phase Publication Phase II organized by the Cordillera Regional Health Research and Development Consortium (CRHRDC). The activity was held from 28 to 29 November 2023 at the Fortune Restaurant in Paragon Hotel, Baguio City.
A selected group of participants, 13 in total, emerged from various universities and colleges across the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR). These individuals were chosen based on the merit of their papers presented during Phase I, held on September 18-19, 2023, at the CCA, SLU.
Among the participants from SLU were Mr. Jonivier Badilla, Ms. Marianne Menecio, Ms. Febeyjane Obsen, Ms. Rosario Agenes Basat, Dr. Judrelle Krizia Mariano, Dr. Lizalyn Marie Barros-Revilla, Dr. Margot Flor Yasay, Dr. Jennet Razo, and Ms. Eva Marie Pascual, while one represents each of the University of Baguio, Baguio Central University, and Ifugao State University.
Day 1
The event commenced with a solemn prayer and the singing of the national anthem, fostering a sense of unity and purpose among the attendees. Dr. Jimmy Catanes then introduced the workshop’s mechanics, which centered on the critical task of identifying suitable journals for publication. The morning session focused on this pivotal aspect, guiding participants through the process of journal selection.
In the afternoon, attention shifted towards the exploration and navigation of the chosen journal. Participants delved deeper into understanding the journal’s requirements and specifications, laying the groundwork for their forthcoming submissions.
Day 2
The second day began with an illuminating sharing session led by Dr. Ailyn Fadriquela, a DOST PCHRD Awardee, who generously shared her personal publication journey. Her insights provided invaluable guidance and inspiration to the eager participants, offering a glimpse into the challenges and triumphs of academic publication.
Following Dr. Fadriquela’s session, a practical workshop ensued, focusing on crafting articles within the template guidelines of the previously selected journal. Participants actively engaged in honing their writing skills, aligning their work with the publication standards outlined.
In the afternoon, a constructive critique session unfolded, allowing participants to review and refine each other’s papers.
UnRIC Involvement:
The SLU participants were closely monitored by UnRIC throughout the external event hosted by CRHRDC. UnRIC played a pivotal role in overseeing and supporting the SLU participants, ensuring their adherence to research standards and the university’s commitment to research publication excellence.
As the Writing Publication Phase II ended, participants departed with enhanced knowledge, refined writing skills, and a more precise roadmap toward journal submission. The culmination of this phase marked the participants’ readiness to submit their papers to their targeted journals, with deadlines set for December 2023 or the first quarter of 2024.
