Saint Louis University was among the eighty finalists from 17 countries and territories shortlisted in the prestigious Times Higher Education Awards (THE Awards) Asia 2024.
SLU made it to the shortlist of eight universities worldwide for the category “Research Project of the Year: Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.”
The THE Awards offer an international platform to recognize outstanding leadership and institutional performance and celebrate excellence in higher education across the continent. Also known as the “Oscars of higher education”, the awarding body received 600 entries across 10 categories in its sixth year covering the full range of academic activities of a university.
THE’s global affairs officer, Phil Baty, said “the THE Awards Asia remain proudly inclusive, and as we compiled this shortlist, we were reminded that groundbreaking ideas and the seeds of best practice can flourish at institutions of all shapes and sizes, wherever they are in the region.”

According to Times Higher Education Awards, this award is given to the individual or team at a higher education institution for innovative arts, humanities or social sciences research that has a far-reaching impact and has caught, or has the potential to catch, the imagination of the public. The award is particular with evidence of significant or novel results, creative collaborations, and imaginative communication of research results.
SLU was shortlisted in this category together with: Chulalongkorn University (Thailand), Hong Kong Polytechnic University (Hong Kong), Lovely Professional University (India), Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) (Malaysia, Our Lady of Fatima University (Philippines), Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (Sri Lanka), and Suranaree University of Technology (Thailand).
Winners will be announced at a ceremony in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on 29 April. It will culminate the first day of THE’s Asia Universities Summit.
