The energy and excitement carried on across the venues of Saint Louis University (SLU) Main Campus, SLU Navy Base Campus, SLU Maryheights Campus, and the SLU Laboratory Elementary School on the third day of the 7th CICM Schools Friendship Meet, 21 February 2024.
Building upon the momentum of the thrilling first day of matches held on 20 February, the table tennis and drama competitions were put to a close on this day.
As to other events in their second leg, delegates from the participating CICM schools wasted no time in immersing themselves in a day filled with spirited competition and camaraderie.
Through the collaboration of the University Information Office (UIO) with the SLU student publications, over 60 student writers and photojournalists have dedicated their time and craft in the coverage of events in this article. These student publications include Basic Education School (BEdS)-Tanglaw Hilaga, BEdS-The Louisian, BEdS-The Young Louisian Courier, Daily Dose (School of Nursing, Allied Health, and Biological Sciences), SCHEMA (School of Accountancy, Management, Computing and Information Studies), Stellaris (School of Teacher Education and Liberal Arts), The Buttress (School of Engineering and Architecture), and White & Blue, the official student publication of SLU.
Wrapping it up with finesse: Table Tennis competition reaches conclusive finals
The match-ups for the Table Tennis Finals took place at the Gonzaga Gym, SLU Laboratory Elementary School, putting an exclamation point on what was an intense and eventful competition.
C Team Event R1: CTM 4-1, CTM2-3
Players of Saint Louis University (SLU), University of Saint Louis (USL), Saint Mary’s University (SMU), and Saint Louis College of San Fernando (SLC-LU) battled ahead in the Men and Women’s Team Table Tennis tournament.
College Team Table Tennis Women (CTW) 4-1: The tournament commenced with the two opposing schools, SMU and SLU, battling it all out. SLU single-handedly defeated SMU, securing the 3-point match and unveiling their sheer prowess and agility. SMU gave it their all but failed to secure a point in the second round. The match ended 3-0.
College Team Table Tennis Women (CTW) 2-3: USL tore down the defense of SLC-LU, garnering a 3-point match game and conquering the opposing side. SLC-LU’s unwavering tenacity could not keep up with the swift moves of USL, wrapping up the match 3-1.
C Team Event R1: CTW 4-1, CTM 4-2
College Team Men Table Tennis (CTM) 4-1: The SLU Navigators Table Tennis Women’s Team displayed an exquisite performance, securing its momentum in the first round. SLC-LU, hoping to claim the second, was unsuccessful as SLU swept the second round, ending the match 3-0.
College Team Men Table Tennis (CTM) 4-2: USL and SMU displayed a neck-and-neck game in the College Men’s Team Table Tennis. Despite Saint Mary’s University’s attempts to gain control, the University of Saint Louis Tuguegarao remained steadfast and snatched the second round, ending the match 3-2.
CTE R2: CTM 1-3, CTM 4-2
SLU and USL secured a decisive win in the second round on the round-robin semi-finals of the Table Tennis Team Men’s Division after dominating the matches against SMU and SLC-LU, with an overwhelming 3-0 score.
The match between SLU and SMU went by in a flash as SLU did not give SMU a chance for a comeback from being swept with a 3-0 win. The match ended within three sets with SLU gaining the lead on the best-out-of-five game.
USL, meanwhile, clinched the win after beating SLC-LU, 3-0, in the best-of-five match. SLC-LU refused to give up but its last desperate attempt to return the ball with a slice went and flew over the table leading USL a decisive score to end the game.
CTE R2: CTW 1-3, CTW 4-2
The atmosphere was calm yet intensely competitive during the Team Table Tennis Women matches as the players of SLU and SLC – LU showcased their skills and determination on the table. Despite the fierce competition, SLU emerged victorious in both encounters.
In the first match (CTW 1-3), SLU demonstrated remarkable self-focus and confidence, swiftly securing a 3-point victory over SLC-LU. The game exhibited a high level of skill and seriousness, culminating in SLU’s triumph with an overall score of 3-1.
Similarly, in the second match (CTW 4-2), SLU faced SLC-LU once again. As the game proceeded, SLU quickly found their rhythm, delivering an intense performance throughout the sets. Both teams fought valiantly, but SLU emerged triumphant once more, clinching victory with a final score of 3-1.
CTE R3: CTM 2-1, CTM 3-4
During the third round of the round-robin Quarter Finals of the Table Tennis Team Men’s Division, SMU won after a decisive game against SLC-LU by a 3-point lead in the Best of Five match. The match started with an ad by SMU in the first two sets after gaining a score of 3-0 in both sets. However, in the third set, with two players playing in each team, SLC-LU refused to yield, leading the match into a deuce, but SMU did not to give up on securing the win. SMU finished the game with an overwhelming 3-0 score, besting SLC-LU in three sets with scores 11-4, 12-10, and 11-3.
Meanwhile, SLU edged out USL with a 3-1 score. The match began with an easy win for SLU in the first set, leading 3-0. However, in the second set, SLU struggled against USL lasting five rounds and ending with a 3-2 score with USL securing the win. SLU gained the lead again with a 3-1 score in the third set and managed to gain an advantage. The fourth set became the decisive turn of the match as SLU secured another win despite some struggle.
The set lasted for five rounds, with the scores as close as possible — leading 7-11, 8-11, 11-8, 11-7, and 9-11; SLU managed to nip their opponents out.
CTE R3: CTW 2-1, CTW 3-4
SLU and SLC–LU triumphed in the third round of the table tennis college team event in the women’s division, tallying a 3-0 and 3-1 records, respectively.
Tallying a 3-0 win for both the singles set A and B and tallying a 3-1 win for the doubles set, SLU dominated the three consecutive sets against USL, while SLC-LU defeated SMU after a 3-0, 2-3, 3-2, and 3-0 sets tally.
Further, after the three rounds, SLU garnered a 6/3 total points securing them a spot for the finals against USL with a 5/4 total points.
FINALS: CTM, CTW
SLU dominated the finals game, sweeping the three sets of the college table tennis team event in both men’s and women’s divisions.
Davonn Reinhart Bumidang, Timothy Mark Fernandez, Lawrence Jonathan Jover, Aron Kirt Malicdem, John Jheavin Manzano, and Norman Dave Pedrozo managed to claim the men’s divisions championship title, tallying a 3-0 record with a clash against USL’s Sgarth Dusting Ayang-ang, Jalen Tracy Dalluay, Rey Christian Ramos, and Wilson Dangarang Jr.
On the other hand, women paddlers Julia Dominique Barrera, Mariella Elhyn Bumagat, Dejee Lux Dangiwan, Michaela Jan Ingrid Estoesta, Jyeana Kate Sevilla, and Maezabelle Julienne Visperas showcased an impressive display of offenses outdoing Jinky Aman, Brenie Joy Pascual, Shaina Angelique Sayoc, and Denis Margaret Cabagui of USL with a 3-0 win.
Awarding Ceremony of BEdS Individual Awards JR and SR HS
Junior High Boys Singles Category:
USL representative Aj E. Roque took the crown in the Table Tennis Junior Single Boys Category. Furthermore, SMU representative, Phil Mavric C. Ablis, won first runner up, along with SLC – LU representative Robert Christian L. Rimorin, who clutched second runner up.
Junior High Girls Singles Category:
USL delegate Rich Emireen F. Pagulayan overthrew the court as the victor of the Table Tennis Junior Single Girls Category. SLC – LU was not far from behind, as first runner through Shaila Caely P. Sanchez and SMU, who stood as second runner up through Xelyn M. Labangcoc as their delegate.
Senior High Boys Singles Category:
USL soars to victory in the Table Tennis Senior High Boy Singles category, with their champion, Garet C. Dalluay, taking the gold medal with pride. Alongside Von Michael A. Gacad stood first runner up holding the silver medal representing SMU, while representative Emmanuel Rasing of SLU took second runner up earning his bronze medal.
Senior High Girls Singles Category:
SLU stood proud as Champion of the Table Tennis Senior High Girls Single Category with their representative Vreyaellia Visperas. SMU ranked second, as represented by Sasha D. Manalo, while USL representative Joana Mae Soriano ranked third.
Awarding Ceremony for Individual Medalist and team Event for College
SLU overpowered the College Table Tennis matches in both the men and women divisions, taking home five (5) golds out of the eight (8) events.
Following the final results, Jalen Tracy Dalluay of USL grabbed the championship title in the single’s one tally of the men’s division, followed by Davonn Reinhart Bumidang of SLU, and Amiel Stephen Singson of SMU.
For the single’s one tally of the women’s division, SLU– LU’s Kate Almira Giron was hailed as the champion of the event, followed by USL’s Jingky Aman, and SLU’s Maezabelle Julienne Visperas.
At the same time, for the Single’s Two Tally of the Men’s Division, Wilson Dangarang Jr. of USL bagged the championship title, followed by Norman Dave Pedrozo of SLU and Stephen Allen Cajigal of SLC-LU. Meanwhile, for the Single’s Two Tally of the Women’s Division, Jyeana Kate Sevilla of SLU secured the championship title, Denise Margaret Cabagui of USL was declared the first runner-up, and Patricia Rosa Quinto of SLC-LU was declared the second runner-up.
For the Doubles Category, men paddlers Timothy Mark Fernandez and Aron Kirt Malicdem of SLU were declared the champions, followed by Sgarth Dustin Ayang-ang and Rey Christian Ramos of USL as 1st runner up, and Keihl Neri Prudenciano and Dann Joshua Sulio of SMU as 2nd runner up. On the other hand, for the Doubles Women’s Division, the champions Dejee Lux Dangiwan and Michaela Jan Ingrid Estoesta of SLU were followed by SMU’s Elija Marie Mabbayad and Mica Allana Yangat, and USL’s Brenie Joy Pascual and Shaina Angelique Sayoc as the 1st runner ups and 2nd runner ups respectively.

Drama competition victors unveiled
The Drama Competition held at the Fr. Joseph Van den Daelen – Center for Culture and the Arts, the stellar performances of SLC-LU (“Punala: Punla ng Alaala”), SLU (“Tinubuang Lupa”), SMU (“Pag-ibis”), and USL ( “Puno Ng Buhay”) was a testament of the artistic prowess of CICM theater actors and enthusiasts alike.
Each narrative performed gave the audience an exhilarating, yet meaningful experience, that rang through until the awarding ceremony.

Billiard Matches kindle sportsmanship
The intense Billiard 9-Ball Championship matches between the Senior High Boys and Girls categories from SMU, USL, SLC-LU, and SLU at Room 105 of the Gerard Decaestecker Building in the Senior High Campus, Navy Base.
GAME 1: Irish Tacay from SLU looked at her first win against Melody Gapuz from SMU with a score of 3-1. Showcasing her shots’ accuracy and precision in pocketing the balls, Tacay secured the spot in the Finals.
GAME 2: In a race to three, SLC-LU’s billiard player Jamille Aguila dominated the table against Princess Tobias from USL. Displaying superior tactics, Aguila advanced to the next match with a score of 3-0.
GAME 3: Kurt Peralta from SLC-LU swept his first 9-ball game against Kerwin Yap from USL with a score of 4-1.
GAME 4: SMU’s Lucky Benosa Jr. grabbed the win from Eldridge Pantoja of SLU leading with 2 points. Benosa displayed his mastery as he set the tone for the 9-Ball Championship.
GAME 5: USL’s Princess Tobias steals the win with a score of 3-2, defeating Irish Tacay of SLU. Tobias comes in clutch as she pockets her way to the next game.
GAME 6: In an overwhelming victory of 3-0, Aguila pocketed another win for SLC- LU from SMU billiard player Melody Gapuz. Her dominating tactics left SLC-LU shocked by the results.
GAME 7: SMU cannoned their way to another win against SLC-SFLU with a score of 4-1, respectively. Racking up two wins for SMU, Benosa took another step towards the 9-Ball Championship.
GAME 8: Showcasing his mastery at the billiard table, Pantoja from SLU took Game 8 from SLC-LU with a victory of 4-3. This marked his two-game streak in the 9-ball competition.
GAME 9: SLU triumphed, entering third place in the 9-Ball Championship as Tacay reached three before SLC-LU. With her one win and two losses, Tacay assured her spot in the Finals as the Bronze medalist. Aguila advanced to compete for the 9-ball Championship with a score of three wins and zero losses.
GAME 10: USL stunned SMU as they bagged another win through Tobias’ third victory with a score of 3-0. Tobias’ precision and strategy with the cue have secured her spot in the Finals as she faced SLC-LU for the gold.
GAME 11: SLU advanced to the finals as Pantoja secured his place in the Championship against SLC-LU with a score of 4-1. Peralta won the bronze medal for SLC-LU in the 9-ball Championship with one win and two losses.
GAME 12: Yap claimed his first win for USL, halting SMU’s winning streak with a score of 4-2. Yap demonstrated his tactical skills during the final leg before the start of the finals. Benoso competed for the Championship against Pantoja to break their tie of two wins and one loss.
GIRLS FINALS: SLC-LU went head-to-head with USL in a Race of Four for the 9-Ball Championship. Banking the 9, Tobias ruled the table, not giving a chance for SLC-LU to chalk down a pocket. USL tallied another gold to bring home.
BOYS FINALS: SMU won by one point from SLU with a score of 4-3, respectively. The tenacious plays between the two billiard players had brought the game to overtime. Regardless of Pantoja’s skill and unwavering dedication, Benosa took the gold for SMU in the 9-Ball Championship.
As the athletes shook hands and exchanged thanks, they were exhilarated to go head-to-head in the next competition round – the 8-Ball Competition that is set to commence on 22 February 2024 at 8:00 AM in Room 105 at the Gerard Decaestecker Building in the Senior High Campus at Navy Base.
The CICM Team Spirit heats up as Basketball Games spur on
Game 23: SLU secured a 27-point lead in the final quarter after an intense back-and-forth first half to dispose of SMU in the 23rd game of Women’s Basketball at the Prince Bernard Gym, SLU Main Campus.
The match began with an even scoring between both teams before SLU slowly accumulated a sizeable point gap against SMU, ending the first quarter with 25 points to 11 in favor of SLU. SLU then continued to widen the gap through excellent passes and team play to close quarter 2 with a staggering 43 – 19 scoring.
Meanwhile, SMU managed to shorten the point gap in the 3rd quarter via excellent 3-pointers, finishing the 3rd quarter with 58 – 31. SLU, nevertheless, hang on to the score advantage until the end of the 4th quarter, closing off the game with a final score of 74 to SMU’s 47.
Game 24: USL secured a 10-point lead in the final quarter to finish ahead of SLC-LU in the 24th Game of Women’s Basketball category. SLC-LU had an explosive start, dropping three 3-pointers early on in the first quarter, giving them a 14-0 lead against USL who had a slow start. USL picked up the pace and played consistently to finish the first quarter only behind by two points, 13-15.
The second quarter was a close match, but USL’s tight defense allowed them to snatch the lead against SLC-LU who suffered from multiple minor injuries throughout the game’s progression. USL’s prowess widened the gap in the 3rd quarter and played a dominant 4th to secure the win at 56-46.
Game 25: Crowds of different schools erupted in cheer as SLU came face-to-face with USL in Game 25 – College Men’s Division. The Baguio ballers started off with a 13-point lead in the first quarter, closing the latter with 27-14. On the other hand, the hoopers from Tuguegarao were slowly able to catch on during the second quarter, but a buzzer beater from SLU’s Angelo Cacho widened the gap at 49-37.
Game 26: SMU reigned victorious against SLC-LU, putting up an exciting game of College Basketball in the Men’s Division. The first quarter was a close fight, finishing at 22-27. However, SMU widened the gap in the second quarter, 46-59. Further, the score advanced with SMU’s incessant shots and agility, finishing the third quarter at 62-94. Unfortunately, SLC-LU was no longer able to catch up, closing the game with final scores of 84-121, dominated by SMU.
The beginning of the second half of the match was a close fight, 58-54. In the fourth quarter, USL narrowly trailed behind SLU with a 2-point gap. However, the latter continuously rained 2-pointer shots, once again dominating with 72-64. The game ended at 79-76, in favor of SLU.
Game 27: The women’s basketball team of SLU faced off against SLC-LU, as both teams competed in the College category with high spirits, fit for the competitive vibe in the gymnasium. SLU pulled out with the 59-38 win after an explosive 4th quarter where they scored 23 huge points.
Game 28: For another match of College Women Basketball, SMU faced USL. SMU started off hot, scoring 16 quick points in the first quarter. USL, on the other hand, sparked a run of their own, scoring 19 in the second and 18 in the third quarter. They, however, slumped in the fourth and final quarter, scoring only 6 points against SMU’S 20. SMU took the 65-54 win, that proved their fighting spirit.
Game 29: In a gripping clash that had the crowd on the edge of their seats, SLC-LU emerged triumphant over SLC-Cebu in the Junior High School Men’s Basketball Match at the Bishop Carlito Cenzon Sports Center Court. SLC–LU maintained a stranglehold on the court from the opening tip-off that secured a narrow lead in the first quarter. SLC–LU maintained a 20-point lead during the second and third quarters until the final buzzer sounded, ending the game with a resounding 59 – 42 score.
Game 30: USL overcame SMU after a hard-fought showdown in the Junior High School Men’s Basketball match. Kicking off the match with their two-pointers, USL built up their lead against SMU, ending the first quarter 16-21. USL then maintained the score gap through the second and third quarter, 31-48 and 51-64, respectively. SMU tried to gain on their opponents during an intense fourth quarter clash; however, USL remained dominant, securing their win, as the game closed off to a 67-78.
Game 31: SLC-LU surged over SLCC in the Senior High School Men’s Basketball category. SLC-LU dominated the first half over SLCC, 43-23. Following a fierce fourth quarter clash, SLCC attempted to close the gap, however SLC-LU maintained their reign, capping the game with 67-62.
Game 32: USL triumphed over SMU, with a score of 89-70, in the Senior High School Men’s Basketball match. USL established their reign on the court, punching through a 24-point lead in the first half after showering SMU with threes. As the match went on, SMU failed to close the gap during the second half, capping the ballgame with 21-14, 49-25, 75-56, 89-70 scores.
Game 33: SLU advanced against USL in the Junior High School Men Category. SLU led the first quarter to a close call score of 22 against 16 points from USL. Apilado of SLU was swift and agile, contributing to the score advantage. USL briefly dominated the early part of the second quarter, however, SLU sealed their lead with a score of 44 against 35 points from USL. SLU ensured a great gap of 20 points with five minutes left in the third quarter. Although USL narrowed the point gap against SLU early in the fourth quarter, SLU reclaimed the lead by finishing off with a score of 87 against USL’s 60 points.
Game 34: In the Junior High Men’s Basketball category, SLC-LU faced off against SMU. It was a lopsided game with SLC-LU proving to be too much for SMU as they cruised to an 89-47 win.
Game 35: In another Senior High Men Basketball bout, Saint Louis University (SLU) took on the University of Saint Louis – Tuguegarao (USL). SLU would start out hot, scoring 20 big points in the first, but USL would slowly but surely clawed their way back to the game, capping their performance off with a 24-point fourth quarter. USL would snatch the 72-67 win over SLU in a display tenacity.
Game 36: SMU went head on against USL in the Basketball Boys Elementary category. SMU dominated USL in a landslide victory, with a final score of 69-48.
Game 37: In match for the Basketball Boys Elementary category, SLU dominated the first two quarters, but Saint Louis College of San Fernando, La Union (SLC-LU), was able to get back on its feet during the third quarter. It was a very intense game and closely contested. The game ended with SLC-LU claiming the victory with a score of 56-47.
Game 38: SLU and SLC-LU face off in the first match for the Senior High Women Category. SLC-LU started strong as they rained shots and scored first. However, SLU managed to catch up and win the game with a score of 65-32.
SLU remained undefeated and will move forward to the upcoming games with a standing of 3-0.
Game 39: USL prevailed in a match against SMU. USL persisted during the first halftime and remained consistent until the final two quarters. Eventually, USL won the game with a score of 41-27.
USL’s current standing remains at 1-2, making their match against SMU their first win. Meanwhile, SMU’s current standing is 0-3.
Game 40: Bishop Carlito Cenzon Court 2 was filled with enthusiastic cheers from the delegates of SLCC and SLC-LU, as they both aim for the championship slot. Both teams thrilled the spectators with their stellar offensive and defensive strategies. Despite the valiant efforts of the SLC-LU, SLCC limited their scoring opportunities and forced crucial turnovers, with 22-10, 19-13,16-16, and 22-5 scores in their favor.
Game 41: USL won over SLU in this Basketball Elementary Boys match. A steaming start in the first quarter ended with a very close score of 17-18 in favor of SLU. The game became even more exciting as the second quarter also came to a very close score of 25-27 still in favor of SLU. A heart-pumping third quarter made tensions rise as the score tied at 42 with 12 seconds remaining on the clock. It ended with SLU taking the lead of two points having a score of 42-44. Both teams exhibited strength, agility and talent as they conquered more hoops in the fourth quarter having a tied score of 50 with two minutes and five seconds left on the clock. In the end however, USL was able to claim victory with a final score of 54-52.
Game 42: SLC-LU persisted in their third match against SMU. SLC-LU started strong as they prevailed in the first half of the game. With a score of 86-43, SLC-LU secured the winning run.
Moreover, SLC-LU remains to be the only undefeated basketball team in the Men’s Senior High Category. With a standing of 3-0, they are set to play against SLU on February 22, 2024, at the Bishop Carlito Cenzon Sports Center.
Sepak Takraw highlights endurance and agility
Elimination 1: A 1st Set, D 1st Set:
SLU ousted SMU in the first round of eliminations held at Prince Bernard Gym. SLU snatched the first set against SMU with their powerful plays asserting dominance in the match, 15-13; 1-0. The powerful play of SLU then swept the second set, concluding the game with 15-9; 2-0.
SLU is set to have another match with SMU in the Championship game.
Elimination 2: B 1st Set, C 1st Set :
USL ranked 3rd while SLC-LU ranked 4th as they dominated two sets with a 15-7 and 15-12 victory.
USL is poised to compete once more against SLC-LU in the Sepak Takraw Championship match as they battle for bronze.
Championship Game 1: Top 1 vs Top 2 (3 sets):
This match was a twice-to-beat encounter as SLU had an undefeated record in the standings. To determine the ultimate winner, SLU and SMU had to face off twice for the championships.
Both teams showcased their enjoyment of the match and demonstrated their skills, sportsmanship, and passion to emerge victorious. Despite SLU’s flawless performance in the elimination rounds, they faced defeat in this match, with an overall score of 2-1 in favor of SMU. Despite this setback, SLU remains hopeful and determined to make a comeback in the next and final championship game.
Championship Game 2: Top 1 vs Top 2 (3 sets):
The match marked the second encounter between SLU and SMU in the twice-to-beat match. Both SLU and SMU found themselves motivated to give their best performance, determined to claim the championship title.

FINALS – ESB, SRSG: The Badminton Finals game for both Elementary Singles Boys and Girls division started off at the Gonzaga Gymnasium.
For the Elementary Singles Boys, SLC-LU Player Guerrero—with a twice to beat advantage—and SLU Player Catalan marched into the court to start the game. Guerrero bagged the gold medal in 2 sets with a 21-15, 21-8 score.

San Diego fought hard, having long rallies in game 2 against Nolasco. However, Nolasco stepped up his game having 21-18, 22-20 scores sealing the finals.

Elementary shuttlers from USL displayed their unmatched racket skills after dominating SLU in Round 1 of the simultaneous badminton matches held at SLU Laboratory Elementary Campus’ Gonzaga Gymnasium.
ROUND 1 MXD: EMXD 4-1, EMXD 2-3: In the Mixed-Double Division (Elementary Bracket), USL demonstrated their prowess by gaining a sweep win against SLU athletes, 21-19 and 21-15. SLU gained a slight advantage in the first match. However, with USL players holding on to the fort the whole game, scores of the matches only revolved around an ‘equal-or-advantage’ situation, giving SLU a hard time to snatch a win. Finally, after gaining momentum in the middle of the second match, USL finally handed SLU their second match loss.
ROUND 1 MXD: JRMXD 2-4, JRMXD 3-4: Junior shuttlers from SLC-LU showed their determination in the court after clinching a win over a close round with SMU. In the Mixed-Double Division (High School Bracket), SLC-LU players outplayed SMU athletes in Round 1 by sealing victories in the second and third matches, 21-12, 17-21, and 13-21. During the first match, Tan and Cañaberal dominated the half court after pouring consecutive smashes against their opponents, giving SMU their first-win advantage, 21-12. However, Guerrero and Cortez of SLC slowly returned the favor during the second match, which ended in a close score of 17-21. With this, SLC-LU shuttlers continued their momentum during the third match and finally outplayed SMU by ending the game at an eight-point advantage, 13-21.
ROUND 1 MXD: SRMXD 4-1, SRMXD 2-3: SLU smashed SLC-LU in Round 1 of the Senior High Mixed Doubles bracket. With a score of 21-14, SLU’s Darelle Soriano and Weanna Shane Estabillo dominated Game 1 using their powerful bats. In game 2, SLC-CSF’s Justin Michael Gravidez and Justine Cayleigh Caluscusin got their momentum, leading to 21-18 in their favor. In the heated final match, SLU had an 8-point lead where SLC-LU quickly caught-up, resulting in a 17-score tie. With SLU’s agility and SLC-LU’s multiple service faults, Soriano of SLU ended the final game with 21-18, final score 2-1.
ROUND 2 MXD: EMXD 1-3, EMXD 4-2: Round 2 of the Elementary Division was heated as teams fought to secure their spot for the Finals. Overall, the results show that SLU won one game and lost two games, while Saint Louis College won three games and zero losses, Saint Mary’s University won 1 game and lost 2 games, and University of Saint Louis won one game and lost two.

Rayman San Diego and Reema Cavinta of SLC-LU claimed two successive games against SLU in the Junior’s Mixed badminton rally.
While SLU pair Embher Benlingan and Markrixia Llaguna kept a close score in the second set at 19-21, they staggered in the first half of the game with 10 points behind San Diego and Cavinta, leading the SLC-LU duo to claim the game.

The most closely contested match of the day unfolded between USL and SMU, with USL emerging victorious after a grueling three-set encounter, ultimately prevailing with a scoreline of 2-1 (24-22, 15-21, 21-14).
The highlight of the day came in the clash between SLC-LU and SLU, where SLC-LU staged a remarkable comeback after losing the first set, eventually triumphing 2-1 (9-21, 21-18, 21-10) in a display of sheer determination and skill, capping off a thrilling day of badminton action.

CICM athletes impressive amidst fast-paced Volleyball matches
Match 14: SLC-LU nailed its first win in the Men’s Volleyball tournament after defeating USL in three sets. Coming back from a 0-3 defeat in the previous match against SLU, SLC-LU regained its status as they swept their USL counterparts with the scores of 25-14, 25-21,25-21. The La Union-based squad leaned on their 2-0 advantage and played steadily in the third canto as they hopped on a 19-13 cushion. However, USL tried to salvage the third set as they managed to equalize the score at 21 before SLC ended the match.
Match 15: SLU remained undefeated in the Men’s Volleyball tournament after trouncing SMU in three sets. Fresh from their 3-0 victory against SLC-LU, the Navigators posted an empathic record finishing SMU with the scores of 25-17, 25-16, 25-22. The SLU squad hurdled with four points in the last minutes of the third set. However, SMU inched closer at 21 but the Navigators retaliated their composure and ended the set, 25-22, to prevent a sudden deadlock.
Match 16: USL defeated SLU in the first round, scoring 25 points to 13 for SLU. The match advanced to the second round when Christian Brix Gaspar seized the lead and won on the with a score of 25-13. The match lasted two rounds, and USL showed off their superiority in both by defeating SLU with a score of 25-25 against their 13-13.
Match 17: SLC-LU defeated SMU with the scores of 20 – 25, 25 – 20 and 15 – 9. Earl Arellano took the ace for their team as he clutched the game in between the second round. SLC-LU won against SMU in the High School Boys match that went on for three matches. SMU took the win in the first round, ending with the score of 25 – 20. Earl Arellano took the lead for SLC-LU as they clutched the second round 25 – 20. Scores soared against SMU up until the final round where SLC-LU gained a score of 15 – 9.
Match 18: SLC-LU scored 25 in the first round against SLCC’s 21. Tanya Suminta, their team captain, took the lead and won the round for SLC-LU. The match lasted two rounds. SLC-LU defeated SLC-Cebu with a score of 21-25 against SLCC’s 25-27.
Match 19: USL breezed through the match and triumphed against SLU with the score of 25 – 13, 25 – 9. Angel Gaspar successfully led her team to victory, as she was one of the driving forces of her team. USL captured the win versus SLU. The match had two sets, in which USL prevailed in the first set with their impressive spikes and coordination, scoring 25-13. In Set 2, SLU put up a fight but USL still dominated the court, scoring 25-9.
Match 20: SLC-LU triumphed against SMU gaining 25 – 22 for the first round and, 25 – 17. SMU took the lead in the early games, but as the round went on SLC-LU scored 25 against SMU with a score of 22. The second round went quickly as SLC-LU had no trouble in acing a serve, as this goes on, their scores also quickly went up.
Match 21: USL trounced SMU in the Senior High School Women’s Volleyball Game 21, 2-0. The first was tight as both teams exchanged scores and tied at 11, but SMU lost control of the game as they played a 6-point Game of Errors. Even if they tried their best to cut the huge lead, USL did not hold back as they came smashing and dashing, ending the set with an 8-point lead, 25-17. USL began the following set as Corinthe Mabatan served for six consecutive times, snatching four service aces, and the momentum did not stop there as they dropped an 11-1 run, leaving behind SMU, who was not able to pick up the pace until the end of the set with a big advantage of 25-11.
Match 22: After the disappointing loss from their previous game, SLU Senior High remained winless as SLC-LU shut their doors by crushing them in Game 22 of Senior High School Women’s Volleyball, 2-0. SLC-LU started strong and ensured that SLU wouldn’t have a taste of the antidote. To keep their advantage, powered services and spikes penetrated the hands of SLU, delivering back-to-back aces and attacks to clinch the first set with a 10-point lead, 25-15. SLU tried to bounce back in the second set, but SLU lost their grip and made two consecutive attack errors that built up the momentum of SLC-LU, who pounded a 6-1 run and inched closer to victory at 24-14. SLU did manage to get on track as they tried to clutch the game, but were cut short at 25-20.
Match 23: SLC-Cebu prevailed in a heated game against SMU which garnered their first loss in the High School Men’s Volleyball Game 23, 2-0. Beginning with an exchange of errors, SMU wasn’t able to build a strong first set as SLC-Cebu bombarded an immediate 8-2 run in the first half of the set. Although SMU tried to chase the scores, the walls of SLC-Cebu led by Morales denied all of their entries and bagged the set, 25-15. SMU tried to recover in the second set as they tried to find the right track. SMU succeeded to deuce the set four times in the last quarter of the set. At 22-all, back-to-back errors secured the win of SLC-Cebu, frustrating SMU, 25-23.
Match 24: Strong walls and attacks did the trick for SLC-LU in dominating SLU in two sets of the High School Men’s Volleyball match. Both teams were willing to bag the win in the first set as they exchanged scores in the first half, but SLC-LU broke out of the chain and took advantage. With a 7-point difference, SLU bent backward to cut the lead, but SLC-LU had already fled too far and snatched the set at 25-14. Coming from a loss earlier, SLU could not recover at the second set as their walls were too thin for the jacked spikes of the other team. At 22-12 in favor of SLC-LU, SLU managed to steal the show by clutching a crucial 7-0 run to clinch the lead to three, but the errors of SLU did not help their rally as well but benefited the outsmarting team to secure the win, 25-19.
Match 25: The women’s volleyball team of USL unleashed a dominant performance, sweeping SLC-LU in convincing straight sets, 25-19, 25-19, 25-21, during the elimination round of the College Women’s Volleyball. From the first set, USL dictated the pace with powerful serves and strategic attacks. However, SLC-LU resisted being overpowered swiftly as they came out swinging in the third set, showing off their own offensive ability and pressuring USL to dig deep. USL answered with even greater fervor, culminating in a decisive victory despite SLC-LU’s valiant attempt at a comeback. So far, USL sits tied with SMU with one win and one loss.
Match 26: SLU and SMU kept the audience at the edge of their seats during the College Women’s Volleyball elimination round clash. SLU immediately commanded, winning the first two sets, 25-9 and 25-18, with easy margins. But in the third set, things took a sharp turn as SMU settled into a rhythm and established an overwhelming offensive that forced SLU to concede an unexpected 16–25 loss. With the upper hand, SMU appeared capable of pulling off an upset. But instead of giving up, SLU dug in, strengthened their defense, launched calculated counterattacks, and reclaimed command, winning the fourth set 25–17. This victory sends the SLU women’s volleyball team above the leaderboard with two wins so far.
Ongoing Swimming Competition tests agility and endurance
Swimmers from the Junior High School Division beat the heat during the Swimming Competition at the SLU Aquatics Facility. In the competition’s first leg, the youngbloods showed their agility and endurance as they battled through each other’s waves with style:
