In the pursuit of continuously uplifting the lives of indigenous communities, the Rotaract Club of Baguio-School of Medicine, in partnership with the Rotaract Club of Imus, embarked on an outreach program titled “Adyo sa Baguio.” Held amidst the picturesque mountains of the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), specifically in Baguio City, this initiative unfolded on 3 February 2024. The essence of “Adyo” meaning akyat in Filipino or ascent or climb, encapsulates the dedication of reaching out to the marginalized sectors, particularly those residing in remote areas.
The primary objective of this program was to orchestrate beneficial activities and distribute essential items, including non-perishable food and personal hygiene products, to underprivileged families. A medical consultation ran concurrently with a vibrant face-painting session, catering to 180 beneficiaries. Moreover, the Rotaract Club of Baguio SLU- School of Medicine organized sessions on oral and hand hygiene, underscoring the significance of cleanliness in preventing the transmission of infections and diseases. Instilling these habits in children holds great importance in fostering their overall health and well-being.
Beyond these initiatives, the event featured energizing activities and interactive games tailored for the children’s enjoyment. Prior to concluding the program, the participating clubs distributed educational materials, including coloring books and notebooks, to 100 kids and 300 individuals, respectively. Additionally, 100 hygiene kits, free medicines, and vitamins for 180 children and adults, as well as educational supplies for 150 sets, were provided. Furthermore, 40 indigent families received grocery packs, ensuring they have access to essential supplies.
Aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals 1 (No poverty), 2 (Zero hunger), 3 (Good health and well-being), 4 (Quality education), 6 (Clean water and sanitation), 10 (Reduced inequalities), 11 (Sustainable cities and communities), 16 (Peace, justice, and strong institutions), and 17 (Partnerships for the goals), the Rotaract Club of Baguio SLU-School of Medicine exemplified its commitment to serving humanity and fostering positive change within communities.
