Faculty members from the School of Teacher Education and Liberal Arts participated in the Quality Assurance and Validation of the Regional Achievement Test (RAT) Tool held on 19 March 2024 at the DepEd CAR NEAP in Wangal, La Trinidad. The purpose of the activity is to meticulously review the RAT questions and to ensure that all items are intended for the learners’ assessment.
During the one-day validation activity, the faculty served as outside evaluators of the prepared questions for the RAT for Grade 6 and Grade 10 students in the following subjects: Mathematics, Science, English, Filipino, and Araling Panlipunan. They were assigned based on their areas of specialization; Dr. Wilfredo B. Bambico for Science, Ms. Ruby Jane L. Anamong for Math, Dr. Freda B. Paulino for English, Dr. Sally P. Tabec for Filipino, and Ms. Carmelita B. Caramto for Araling Panlipunan. Each faculty worked closely with the DepEd teachers assigned in the different areas.
As part of the RAT validation process, test questions prepared for the different subjects were reviewed in terms of their alignment with the identified minimum learning competencies in the prepared Table of Specifications (TOS). Moreover, suggestions and recommendations on the content and language structure of the test questions were provided for the improvement of the RAT tool.
Other participants in the RAT validation activity are representative DepEd teachers from the five provinces of the Cordillera Administrative Region. The activity was spearheaded by the Department of Education, Cordillera Administrative Region (DepEd CAR).
Recognizing the importance of public-private collaboration in shaping the educational landscape, Saint Louis University-School of Teacher Education (SLU-STELA) faculty have extended their expertise in assessment to ensure that quality and standards are observed in the RAT tools. This engagement is in fulfillment of the institution’s core values of academic excellence and missionary spirit. Moreover, this endeavor is also aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
