Baguio Association of Government Grantees and Scholars – Saint Louis University (BAGGS) is a duly recognized organization of government grantees and scholars in Saint Louis University. BAGGS successfully held its First General Assembly on October 02, 2024 at SIRIB Center, Otto Hahn Building, Saint Louis University. The event was attended by eighty (80) scholars, who came together to foster a sense of community and shared purpose.
Surely, a community of scholars, the scholars have gotten to know one another from their time together. The general assembly covered a few topics on what the organization is all about and introduction of committees in the organization. Scholars actively participated in interactive sessions, including discussions and mini activities, which provided valuable insights into their responsibilities and opportunities as beneficiaries. A highlight of the assembly was the open forum, where scholars voiced their thoughts and suggestions, fostering an inclusive atmosphere of collaboration. The event concluded with the distribution of membership ID and a collective commitment to uphold the values of academic integrity and community engagement.

During the general assembly of scholars, challenges such as logistical issues, delays in the program flow, and difficulties in engaging all participants were encountered. These were mitigated by having a flexible program structure, assigning coordinators to manage time efficiently, and incorporating interactive activities to maintain participant engagement. Quick problem-solving and effective communication among organizers helped address unexpected issues and keep the event on track. For future assemblies, it is recommended to improve planning by setting clearer timelines, enhancing coordination among scholars, and utilizing digital tools for better communication and participant involvement.
The event was aligned with the principles of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 4 (Quality Education), 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), emphasizing the role of scholars in fostering inclusive and sustainable development. It promotes inclusive and equitable quality education by providing scholars with opportunities to enhance their skills and knowledge, contributing to lifelong learning (SDG 4). The general assembly emphasizes reducing inequalities by ensuring diverse participation and addressing the need for equitable access to education and opportunities, particularly for marginalized groups (SDG 10). Furthermore, it encourages scholars to uphold peace, justice, and transparency through collaborative dialogue and leadership development, empowering them to strengthen institutions and contribute to inclusive, sustainable communities (SDG 16).
The general assembly marked a meaningful start to building a vibrant and supportive network among scholars, setting the tone for a productive and successful academic year. (Article and Photos by BAGGS – SLU)
