Chemical Engineering Week 2024, hosted by the Philippine Institute of Chemical Engineers – Junior Saint Louis University Chapter (PICHE-JSLUC), was held from 6 to 12 October 2024 at the Chemical Engineering Laboratory Grounds, Saint Louis University (SLU). Centered on the theme “Evolving Excellence: Paving the Way for a Sustainable Future,” the event highlighted the critical role of chemical engineering in addressing global challenges and fostering awareness by showcasing diverse opportunities within the field.

One of the highlights was AesChEtics 2024: KalokaLike Edition. This event invited students to channel Filipino celebrities through imaginative fashion designs, blending cultural pride with artistic expression. AesChEtics highlighted the creative talents of chemical engineering students, proving that their innovation extends well beyond the classroom.
Another standout was ChEmbassadors 2024: The Search for Empowered Advocates, which emphasized leadership, confidence, and advocacy skills. Nine candidates from the chemical engineering student body competed by championing advocacies focused primarily on environmental sustainability. The event was held at the Bishop Carlito Cenzon Covered Court and attended by over 100 students, faculty, and alumni.

ChEmbassadors not only served as a competition but as an inspiring platform for students to express themselves and make meaningful changes. As Engr. Daphne Leal aptly put it, “Pagdating sa ingenuity, creativity, and the arts, ChE people never fail to deliver.”
The week also featured informative seminars on Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Pollution Prevention Policies. Experts from DENR-EMB CAR and Benguet State University led the sessions and equipped students with valuable insights applicable to their courses and research. These seminars reinforced the importance of sustainability and innovation in addressing environmental challenges.
Complementing the seminars was an exhibit that showcased OJT testimonials, research studies, and proposals from the Design 2 course. Displayed along the second floor of the Perfecto Building, the exhibit served as a bridge between theory and practice.

The broader implications of Chemical Engineering Week 2024 were profound. The event elevated the visibility of PICHE-JSLUC’s mission, strengthened its community, and encouraged interdisciplinary interest. Many participants reported newfound confidence in their advocacy and leadership skills, while others cited the seminars and exhibits as pivotal in shaping their academic and career aspirations.
Chemical Engineering Week 2024 achieved its objectives of promoting chemical engineering, inspiring students, and fostering advocacy for sustainability. By building on the lessons learned and implementing actionable improvements, future iterations can continue to pave the way for excellence and innovation in the field.
