Representatives from the Professional Regulatory Commission (PRC), Professional Regulatory Board of Mechanical Engineering (PRB-ME), and Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers, Inc. (PSME) conducted an inspection and monitoring visit of the Mechanical Engineering Department of the School of Architecture and Engineering (SEA) of Saint Louis University (SLU) on 03 February 2025.
Held at the Dr. Otto Hahn Building, SLU Main Campus, the visit was hosted by the SLU SEA faculty and administrators led by SEA Dean Engr. Jeffrey Des B. Binwag, and Head of the Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering Department, Engr. Jeffrey Duran.
Hon. Rodulfo L. Tablante, PRB-MEChairperson; Hon. Manuel L. Paulino, PRB-ME Board Member; Hon. Ramon F. Solis, PRB-ME Board Member; Zarah Mae I. Comom, PRC Representative; and PSME representatives were among the delegation.
The inspection and monitoring began with a courtesy visit to the SEA Dean’s office followed by a guided tour of the SEA facilities and laboratories.
Discussions then focused on several key areas including the performance in the Mechanical Engineers Licensure Examination, curriculum enhancements, potential partnerships with various PSME chapters and industries, and plans for faculty immersion. Projects on improving facilities for added safety of students and faculty were also tackled.
The visit by the PRC, PRB-ME, and PSME representatives underscores a collaborative effort to enhance the quality of engineering education. Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 4 (Quality Education) and 17 (Partnership for the Goals), this proactive approach ensures that SLU maintains its reputation as a leading institution in engineering education, fostering a new generation of skilled professionals.
