The New Louisian Philosophical Society (NEOLOUPHIS) conducted Project Dunong at Loakan Liwanag Barangay on 26 March 2026, reinforcing its commitment to community engagement and the promotion of accessible education.

Approximately 200 books were turned over to the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) of Loakan Liwanag led by NEOLOUPHIS officers, together with Charmaine Mendoza from the University Outreach Programs Office, as well as Elvis Ballacay of the School of Teacher Education and Liberal Arts (STELA) Philosophy Department. The donated materials were intended to supplement the Barangay Reading Corner, which aims to provide Loakan Liwanag Barangay constituents with access to quality and informative learning resources.

SK Chairperson Sean Benedict Villamor expressed his heartfelt gratitude to NEOULOPHIS for selecting their barangay as a beneficiary of Project Dunong. He emphasized that the project would play a vital role in strengthening a culture of reading and love for learning among the Katipunan ng Kabataan in their barangay.

“I take great pride in sharing with the Katipunan ng Kabataan of our barangay that I myself am a member of NEOLOUPHIS and that this initiative has reached our barangay, broadening our access to learning and knowledge,” Villamor said.
The successful implementation of the project was made possible through the support of generous partners: the US-PH Library under the care of Anna Grace M. Cabanilla, Project Proponent Dr. Rufo de Leon, and book sponsors Dr. Kathleen Wilson and Ms. Sandy Mckielski.

Looking ahead, NEOLOUPHIS remains committed to strengthening its outreach initiatives by extending similar donation programs to other underserved communities. The organization envisions a wider network of beneficiaries, further advancing its advocacy for accessible education guided by the SLU core values of Christian Spirit, Competence, Compassion, and Innovation.

The NEOLOUPHIS Project Dunong activity at Loakan Liwanag Barangay demonstrates strong alignment with multiple Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By donating books to enrich the Barangay Reading Corner, the initiative directly advances SDG 4: Quality Education, ensuring inclusive and equitable access to learning resources that nurture a culture of reading and lifelong learning among the youth. It also contributes to SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, as it prioritises the needs of the community, thereby bridging educational gaps and expanding opportunities for knowledge acquisition. Moreover, the collaboration among Neolouphis officers, SLU Outreach Program, Philosophy Department, and generous sponsors embodies SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, highlighting the importance of collective action and shared responsibility in promoting accessible education and sustainable community development.
