Saint Louis University (SLU) kicked off the Intramurals for Academic Year 2026-2027, Palarong Louisiano 2026, on 29 September 2026 with a roaring crowd as the SLU schools showcased their cheers, uniting the Louisian community with anticipation and camaraderie.
Brimming with determination, student-athletes from School of Accountancy, Management, Computing and Information Studies (SAMCIS), School of Advanced Studies (SAS), School of Engineering and Architecture (SEA), School of Law (SOL), School of Medicine (SOM), School of Nursing, Allied Health and Biological Sciences (SONAHBS), and School of Teacher Education and Liberal Arts (STELA) assembled at the Giant Steps, SLU Main Campus for the Campus Parade. The assembly was accompanied by the cadence of the SLU Symphonic Marching Band, igniting the spirits of every Louisan by giving encouragement through their rhythmic pulse, evoking the burning enthusiasm for the event.
Under the theme, “Excellence in Motion—Cultivating Passion, Teamwork, and Sportsmanship,” the ceremony began with a Eucharistic Celebration officiated by SLU President Rev. Fr. Gilbert B. Sales, CICM, PhD, blessing the Louisian community with a lesson of leadership through the wisdom of the Lord, Fr. Sales stated, “May we open our hearts to welcome our friends and schoolmates, not simply as competitors, but as brothers and sisters. Because my dear friends, long after the scores are forgotten, and the trophy gathers dust, what will remain is how we treat one another.”
Fr. Gilbert ended his homily with a reminder, “Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last and the servant of all. May we strive not only to be the greatest athlete, or the strongest team. But to become what Jesus calls us all – servant to all.”
Right after declaring the beginning of the most anticipated league within the University, the University President led the Lighting of the Torch, which symbolizes the core values of athleticism that the Louisian community must uphold.
The Intramurals Hymn by the SLU Glee Club and SLU Dance Troupe then commenced, followed by the Amateurism Oath led by University mascot NAVI, solidifying every athlete’s commitment to good sportsmanship.
Further sparking inspiration was the awarding for the Champions of SLU Intramurals AY 2025-2026 led by Fr. Sales along with Atty. Shellah Yzanne P. Merced, Vice President for Administration, Felina P. Espique, PhD, Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Roberto M. Arguelles, PhD, Vice President for Finance. Among the awardees were:
- Overall Champion – SEA with 707.5 points
- 2nd Place – STELA with 610 points
- 3rd Place – SONAHBS with 520 points
- 4th Place – SAMCIS with 502.5 points
The opening ceremony concluded with the bustling crowd shouting in unison the SLU Cheer, S-L-U Navigators!
