Saint Louis University (SLU) held a eucharistic celebration on 01 October 2026 at the Prince Bernhard Gym, SLU Main Campus to mark the beginning of the Rosary and Mission Month. Dedicated to the Most Holy Rosary, the month of October is a special time to deepen our devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and to pray for peace in the world.

Presiding the mass, Rev. Fr. Emery Ebumea Mwako, CICM, Saint Aloysius Gonzaga Parish Priest and SLU Vice President for Mission and Identity, emphasized in his homily how small and simple acts can be a missionary way of reaching out, rooted on the gospel of Luke 10:1–12. As the Catholic church also celebrates the patroness of mission, St. Therese of the Child Jesus, Fr. Mwako further highlighted the core of mission by referencing her life’s message: “You don’t have to do extraordinary things, but simple acts done with great love.”

Fr. Mwako also invited the Louisian community to support the endeavor of fulfilling the CICM mission by embodying the missionary spirit of generosity.

The concurrence of the Month of the Holy Rosary and World Mission Month in October is an important reminder that mission always begins with a prayer, following the example of Jesus who invited His disciples to pray before sending them forth on their mission.

The Louisian community then renewed their dedication to serve the Lord generously through the Pledge of Commitment.
