The Saint Louis University Mining Engineering Society, in partnership with ScienceKonek, successfully held the Regional Youth for Sustainability last April 28, 2023, at Moot Court Room, Silang Building, Saint Louis University, Baguio City. The Youth for Sustainability: Regional Assemblies for SDGs aims to gather the insights of the youth about sustainability and empower them with appropriate knowledge to take action in their respective regions across the country. It was an enriching conversation with the government, industry, and youth leaders to talk about the current situation of our environment and how to make it sustainable.
City Mayor Hon. Benjamin Magalong gave inspirational leadership on changing and making the city a more sustainable community— speakers from Nickel Asia Corporation, Mr. Paolo Alonzo, DENR-CAR, Engr. Benjamin Ventura, EMB-CAR, Engr. Garth Raymundo; and MGB-CAR, Engr. Stephen Joshua Blanco shared important insights on how the government and industry can work together to attain a sustainable future. Youth leaders Hon. Levy Lloyd Oracles, Mr. Mark Ryan Talajuron, and Mr. Clarence Gio Almoite shared their stories on their environmental projects. They also encourage young people to be involved in a changing world and be passionate about taking action, especially for our environment.
The organization’s campaign for a youth-led movement for a more sustainable future for the Philippines began last February 11, 2023, during the Unity in Sustainability Youth Summit held in F1 Hotel, Bonifacio Global City. Continuing its commitment, SLU MinES, in partnership with several youth groups, has organized the Youth for Sustainability: Regional Youth Assemblies for SDGs, a series of regional assemblies that will be held in four major cities in the Philippines from April 22 to May 13, 2023, to gather the insights of the youth about sustainability and empower them with appropriate knowledge to take action in their respective regions.
As young people, we have a unique opportunity to shape the world we want to live in and to make positive changes in our communities and beyond. Sustainability is not just about the environment but also about social and economic sustainability. We can help create a just, healthier, and prosperous world by working towards a more sustainable future. Together, we can build a brighter future for ourselves and future generations.
