Saint Louis University won the Global Citizenship Award for the second time during the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Internationalization Champions of Nation-Building and Sustainability (ICONS) Awards 2023 held on 06 October 2023 at the Philippine International Convention Center, Metro Manila. Rev. Fr. Gilbert B. Sales, CICM, President of SLU, was also a finalist for the Internationalization Leadership Award this year.
Dr. Roberto M. Arguelles, the Quality Management Head and Vice President for Finance, and Dr. Felina P. Espique, Vice President for Academic Affairs, represented the University and received the said award on behalf of Rev. Fr. Sales who is attending the Global Reunion of Louisians in Sydney, Australia.
The Global Citizenship Award is given to a higher education institution for advancing programs that promote intercultural learning experiences, provide their students opportunities to contribute to addressing SDGs, and a platform for students to commit to active global citizenship.
SLU was also awarded for the University’s exemplary performance in internationalization rankings namely:
- QS Asia 2023: Rank 651-700
- THE Impact 2023: Rank 801-1000
- WURI 2023: Rank 101-200
- QS Stars University Rankings: 3 Stars
Meanwhile, CHED Regional Office – Cordillera Administrative Region was recognized with the Outstanding Internationalization Initiatives in the Regions Award under the direction of Dr. Demetrio P. Anduyan Jr., Director IV of CHED-CAR and Jimmy Guisdan Catanes, Education Supervisor II of CHED-CAR.
The CHED ICONS 2023 event celebrates the inclusion of new PHEIs that have been recognized by international ranking agencies. Through it, PHEIs can recognize their high-impact initiatives toward sustainability, ASEAN awareness, and globalization. The Internationalization (IZN) Awards is the highlight of the night that aims to honor exemplar Philippine Higher Education Institutions and leaders that championed the internationalization of Philippine Higher Education.
In line with the IZN achievements, CHED Chairperson Dr. J. Prospero E. De Vera III said, “We applaud HEIs who lead in promoting internationalization and elevating their reputation. Your dedication and persistent efforts have been instrumental in showcasing the capabilities and potential of higher education at the global level. Your commitment deserves our applause.”
