In line with combating the rising prevalence of diabetic retinopathy and related vision-threatening conditions, the Rotaract Club of Baguio Saint Louis University – School of Medicine (SLU-SOM) took center stage in a collaborative health initiative. Partnering with the Baguio Eye Doctor’s Clinic headed by Dr. Ars Mondiguing and Middle Quezon represented by District Health Officer, the Rotaract Club of Baguio SLU-SOM assisted in the recent Diabetic Retinopathy Screening and free reading glasses giving on October 2023.
A total of 114 beneficiaries were screened for diabetic retinopathy, and nine patients were referred to Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC) because of serious conditions. The referred cases included findings such as Media Opacity, Hypertensive Retinopathy, Cataract, Macular Degeneration, YAG CAP, NPDR (Non-Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy), and Pterygium Excision.
Aside from the screening process, Rotaract Club also offered other services during the event such as free urinalysis and flu vaccines.
Alpha Kappa Rho, led by President Ricardo Lavarias and Rotary Club Summer Capital also helped and contributed snacks for patients.
