In a lively and engaging atmosphere, the School of Engineering and Architecture Honor Society (SEAHS) held its General Assembly for the second semester of the Academic Year 2023-2024. The assembly, held on 31 January, 2024, served as a platform for the organization to unveil exciting plans, with a focus on its new activities and outreach program.
The President, Mr. Joelito Carreon, led the assembly, expressing his enthusiasm for the upcoming semester and the dynamic initiatives SEAHS has in store. While highlighting the usual activities that the organization is known for, such as Brain Collisions, he also introduced a novel program named “Adopt-A-Tutee.” This initiative aims to ensure the standard of SEAHS in terms of its members’ academic performance. Probies (new members) are assigned one tutor each from the existing pool of members for the academic year.
The official launch of the Adopt-A-Tutee program took place on 28 January 2024. During this day, tutees met their assigned mentors, sparking the beginning of their mentorship journey. Following the introductions, an orientation session was conducted through the organization’s group chat, ensuring everyone was well-informed about the logistics of the activity.
The President then discussed other projects, with special emphasis on the Valentine’s booth, a project spearheaded by Probies under the supreme guidance of Board of Director Chairman Estephanie Myra Pineda. This initiative will not only provide Probies with hands-on experience but also help showcase their creativity and organizational skills.
The discussion continued with an in-depth look at the procedures and assignments for the much-anticipated Brain Collisions scheduled for this semester. President Carreon emphasized the importance of active participation from all members, encouraging a collaborative environment for innovative ideas.
As the meeting progressed, External Vice President Kathleen Yadan took the floor to delve into the details of SEAHS’ outreach program for the semester. EVP Yadan shared the tentative dates for the 7-week long outreach activity, which was set to be a weekly commitment for members. She actively sought out potential tutors willing to dedicate their time to the outreach program, underlining the organization’s commitment to community engagement.
The members then had an open forum, providing members with the opportunity for a question-and-answer session. This segment allowed for clarification on assigned tasks, fostering a sense of transparency and unity within the organization.
The General Assembly, in alignment with United Nations’ SDG 8 (Decent work and economic growth), 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), and the CICM Advocacy of Peace, left the SEAHS members inspired and motivated for the semester ahead. With innovative programs, engaging activities, and a strong commitment to community outreach, SEAHS is hopeful to make a lasting impact within its members and the broader community it serves.
