On the vibrant afternoon of 28 January 2024, the School of Engineering and Architecture Honor Society (SEAHS) once again showcased its commitment to establishing a strong connection among its members through a unique and entertaining event known as Mathless. Organized by the Executive President and Board of Director Chairman, this quiz-bee competition was exclusively designed for SEAHS members, adding a new dimension to the organization’s rich history of quiz shows like Mathsters and Brain Collisions.
The structure of Mathless was as distinctive as its name, with teams formed by an “angel and soul” tandem. The Executive President and Board of Director Chairman took the lead in creating an atmosphere of friendly competition and shared knowledge. The quiz consisted of three categories: SEA, SLU, and CICM; facts about SEAHS, the organization; and a more lighthearted category, “anything under the sun.” Each category comprised 15 questions, with multiple-choice options and a time limit of 15 seconds for each question, challenging the participants’ quick thinking and knowledge recall.
To accommodate the attendance, the Board of Director Chairman opened the free adoption of souls. Members without assigned angels were given the opportunity to choose and be adopted by angels present at the event, forming teams of 2-3 members, with one angel having one or two souls. The formed teams will officially be recognized as a legal angel-soul tandem, as per the BOD Chairman.
The atmosphere during the competition was filled with laughter, as questions ranged from tricky to surprising facts about SEAHS, including its history and timeline. This not only made the quiz engaging but also served as an educational platform for new members to become more acquainted with the organization’s rich background.
As the dust settled, the winners emerged, celebrated for their impressive teamwork and knowledge. Internal Vice President Sydney Montemayor’s team claimed the championship title, showcasing their mastery of the diverse categories. The 1st Runner-up position was secured by the Board of Director Rochester Lopez’s team, closely followed by the 2nd Runner-up, which went to the Board of Director Mark Angel Permato’s team. The awarding ceremony was a moment of pride and recognition for the winners, who received certificates and prizes, including pencils donated by generous members.
The Mathless quiz-bee, held on the same day as the General Assembly, succeeded not only in strengthening the bonds among SEAHS members but also in creating lasting memories filled with laughter, learning, and friendly competition. This event, aligning with the United Nations’ SDG 4 (Quality Education), 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), 10 (Reduce Inequality), and 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), and the CICM Advocacy of Peace, remains a testament to SEAHS’ dedication to providing a holistic and enjoyable experience for its members.
