On 7 March, the Saint Louis University Youth Council of Ecolodians (SLU YCE) launched the research initiative, “Sapantaha: The Research and Development Support Project”, that offers Php 10,000 in grants to selected research groups focusing on environmental and societal action and sustainability aligned with the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDG). This transformative endeavor is aimed at promoting environmental, societal, and sustainable development research within the institution that addresses pressing global challenges while fostering local solutions.
The Research and Development Support project is designed to identify and support outstanding research or thesis groups that significantly contribute to the field of environmental and societal sustainability. Whether it’s conducting field studies, acquiring research materials, or disseminating findings, this grant aims to alleviate financial barriers and empower students to pursue their research ambitions.
Fostering a culture of research and innovation is crucial for addressing the complex challenges facing the planet and communities. By supporting student-led research initiatives, generation of leaders who are equipped to tackle environmental issues and drive sustainable development forward are cultivated. “Sapantaha” catalyzes the meaningful change and inspire future generations to prioritize environmental stewardship and social responsibility.
The selection process will be rigorous yet transparent. Research groups are encouraged to submit detailed proposals outlining their research objectives, methodologies, and expected outcomes. Each proposal will be evaluated based on its alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals, feasibility, innovation, and potential impact. The panel of judges will assess each proposal with utmost diligence and fairness.
Selected research groups will not only receive financial support but also invaluable recognition for their contributions to the field. Upon completion of their research projects, grantees will have the opportunity to showcase their findings through various platforms, including conferences, seminars, and publications. Additionally, successful projects will be celebrated and acknowledged by the SLU YCE and the wider university community, highlighting the importance of student-driven research in advancing sustainability goals.
Furthermore, selected groups will receive comprehensive assistance and guidance from the SLU YCE throughout their research journey. The organization is committed to providing mentorship, resources, and networking opportunities to ensure the success and impact of each research project. From refining research proposals to navigating data analysis, SLU YCE will be with the grantees every step of the way. (SLU YCE)
