The School of Engineering and Architecture (SEA) through the collaboration with the SEA Dean’s Office, faculty, student organizations, and SLU canteen partners, conducted “The KuSEAna Project” at the Otto Hahn Building, SLU Main Campus on 28, 29 February and 1 March 2024 to offer hefty breakfast for students.
The KuSEAna Project, SEA’s version of a soup kitchen, extends its helping hand to students, as a haven of compassion and support to battle food insecurity, a challenge that can significantly impact their academic journey and overall well-being.
Beyond providing sustenance, the KuSEAna Project fosters a sense of community and belongingness. Volunteers, often SEA students, faculty, and staff, dedicated their time to prepare, serve, and create a welcoming atmosphere where individuals can access a hot meal before they take their examinations or start to work.
The project’s success was rooted in its ability to address a fundamental human need while fostering a culture of empathy and understanding. It served as a tangible reminder that our university community extends beyond classrooms and lecture halls, encompassing a network of care and support that extends to the very basics of human sustenance. This project served as a beacon of compassion, playing a pivotal role in ensuring that no member of the SLU community goes without a nourishing meal. It was a testament to the dedication and the spirit of volunteerism of the SEA family.
By fostering an environment of collaboration and mindful consumption, the program embodied the essence of Sustainable Development Goals 2 (Zero Hunger), and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). At its core, the KuSEAna Project directly tackled hunger by offering freshly prepared, nutritious meals, ensuring students have the fuel they need to thrive. This aligns perfectly with the CICM advocacy of Justice as this program reverberates the core values of assisting especially those in need.
