The CICM and Saint Louis University (SLU) had a long-standing record of being a strong ally and promoter of Environmental Preservation, Climate Change, Human Rights, and Laudato Si. Rev Fr. Gilbert B. Sales, CICM, PhD, SLU President, forged an alliance with the Dominicans for Justice and Peace in promoting the handbook Climate Change and Human Rights Education for Youth in the Philippines.

Fr. Sales stated that advancing climate change and human rights in education is becoming the new approach in evangelization. He furthered that Catholic institutions are called to be at the frontier to seriously take action in mitigating the ill-effects of climate change. Everyone in the Catholic institutions should take the lead in promoting the dignity of everyone and furthering human rights advocacy in the educational sector.

Dr. Joselito C. Gutierrez, Executive Assistant to the President, represented Fr. Sales during the book launch held at the University of Santo Tomas last 16 July 2024. He mentioned that the same cause of providing a handbook on climate change and human rights was also initiated by Fr. Sales as CEAP-CAR Trustee when he led the production of the JEEPGY (Justice and Peace, Ecological Integrity, Engaged Citizenship, Poverty Alleviation, Gender Equality, and Youth Empowerment) Module which was utilized by the Catholic schools in the Cordillera Administrative Region.
Two faculty members from SLU’s Basic Education Unit, Mr. Bren Justin Fajardo and Miss Michelle Bandao, represented the University during the training held at Colegio de San Juan de Letran in Abucay, Bataan to learn how they will integrate the lessons on climate change and human rights education in their daily lessons.
