The Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (JPIA) of De La Salle University conducted the EXCEED 2026 Accounting Challenge, a competition designed to assess the knowledge, analytical skills, and teamwork of accountancy students from various institutions, with the Virtual Amazing Race held on 14 March 2026 and the Quiz Bee held on 28 March 2026. The activities were conducted virtually via Zoom Meeting.
Prior to the main event, participants of the Virtual Amazing Race took part in pre-event activities. These included posting promotional and engagement content on social media platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook. The engagements generated from these posts were converted into accumulated points or benefits that could be used during the event proper. This component encouraged participant involvement, creativity, and early preparation for the competition.
The first main activity, the Virtual Amazing Race, consisted of a series of challenges that integrated questions from the six Licensure Examination for Certified Public Accountants (LECPA) subjects with interactive components such as riddles, puzzles, and time-based tasks. The activity required participants to demonstrate not only academic competence but also speed, coordination, and strategic thinking.
At the end of the competition, Team PPG emerged as the Champion. The team was composed of Marie Julien Baltazar, Ashanna Nicole Bautista, and Jecy Mae Padre. Other teams, namely Team IAA and Team TURESU, also performed well throughout the activity. Team IAA consisted of Issah Raine Obongen, Althea Loren Pineda, and Airixzel Rillera, while Team TURESU was composed of Avha Leur Pacson, Paul Justin Puertullano, and Neil Joshua Tigas.
The second part of the event was the Quiz Bee, which was divided into two categories: Junior Cup and Senior Cup. The Junior Cup was intended for 1st- and 2nd-year students. It covered four accounting subjects: Financial Accounting and Reporting (FAR), Conceptual Framework and Accounting Standards (CFAS), Accounting for Partnerships, and Accounting for Corporations.
During the competition, Kris Althea Lazara, Shanice Althea Nanalis, and Jhasmin Rose Balajo successfully advanced until Elimination Round 2. Kris Althea Lazara further distinguished herself by becoming a candidate for the Final Round. However, due to a tie with another contestant, a tie-breaker question was held, and she unfortunately did not secure a spot in the final round. Other participants, namely Charlene Fernando, Faizah Faye Fernandez, and Florence Joyce Escobar, also showed commendable performance during the competition.
The Senior Cup was intended for 3rd-year to graduating students. Participants were evaluated across six LECPA subjects: Financial Accounting and Reporting-Advanced Financial Accounting and Reporting (FAR-AFAR), Business and Accounting-Related Laws (BAR), Auditing (AUD), Information Systems and Controls (ISC), Taxation (TAX), and Regulatory Framework for Business Transactions (RFBT). Jay Sydney Dulappe secured 4th place in the competition. Moreover, John Trif Pacho, Aleia Marmela Paguyo, and John Dominic Reyes advanced to the Semi-Finals round. The roster of participants also included Dhezimel Frayne Alonzo.
Overall, the EXCEED 2026 Accounting Challenge provided students with a platform to apply their academic knowledge in a competitive, collaborative environment. The event highlighted participants’ analytical abilities, teamwork, and preparedness in accountancy, while also allowing them to represent their institution with pride.
Furthermore, the JPIA–SLU Chapter’s participation in the EXCEED 2026 Accounting Challenge aligns with the CICM Advocacy on the Integrity of Creation by promoting responsible leadership, ethical practices, and holistic development among future professionals. The event also supports Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education by enhancing participants’ academic competence and critical thinking skills through competitive learning. In addition, it contributes to SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth by preparing students for professional careers in accountancy, and SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions by fostering integrity, fairness, and accountability in all aspects of the competition. Lastly, the event embodies SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals by bringing together different academic institutions and organizations to collaborate in promoting excellence and shared learning in accountancy.
