American Corner Baguio, in partnership with the Saint Louis University United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Center (SLU-UNSDG), hosted a two-day Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative YLSEALI Learns MOOC Camp with the topic, “Climate Crisis: Addressing 5 Key Areas for Change” from 19 to 20 October 2023 at the Audio-Visual Room, Msgr. Charles Vath Library Building, SLU.
The YLSEALI MOOC Camp engaged Grade 11 students from the SLU Laboratory High School, Senior High Department. With Dr. Joselito C. Gutierrez, Executive Assistant to the SLU President, and Mr. John Michael A. Guerzon of the SLU Basic Education School as resource speakers, the chosen topic for this YSEALI Learns MOOC Camp was “The Climate Crisis: Addressing 5 Key Areas for Change.”
The camp empowered youth leaders to address climate challenges, instilling knowledge, motivation, and a commitment to positive change. It also introduced participants to Education USA, a U.S. Department of State network of international student advising centers that promotes U.S. higher education to students around the world.
This was the second collaboration between American Corner and the SLU-UN SDG. Previously, the two hosted an English Language Enrichment Session that focused on equipping teachers of Baguio and Benguet.
Day 1 (19 October): Exploring YSEALI Learn Course – ‘The Climate Crisis: Addressing 5 Key Areas for Change’
With the theme “Exploring YSEALI Learn Course – The Climate Crisis: Addressing 5 Key Areas for Change” facilitated by resource speaker Dr. Joselito C. Gutierrez, valuable insights were provided into the critical aspects of addressing the climate crisis and introduced the participants to the YSEALI Learn course.
Day 2 (20 October): Navigating the Climate Crisis: A Path to Sustainable Solutions:
The event concluded successfully on its second day focusing on “Navigating the Climate Crisis: A Path to Sustainable Solutions” with Mr. John Michael A. Guerzon, who served as the resource speaker. Mr. Guerzon guided the participants through pathways to sustainable solutions in tackling the climate crisis, instilling a sense of responsibility and hope among the attendees.
The YLSEALI Learns MOOC Camp provided a valuable opportunity for the Grade 11 Senior High students of Saint Louis University Laboratory High School to delve into the critical issue of climate change. With its well-chosen topics and resource speakers, the event empowers youth leaders and emerging youth leaders, helping them navigate the challenges of the modern world, particularly concerning climate.
