In episodes two and four of the SULYAP Lecture Series hosted by the Political Science Academic Society (POSAS) on 4 February 2024, important topics took center stage sparking discussions on justice, peace, and sustainable development.
The online lecture titled “Judgment Day: The ICC and its role guaranteeing full respect for human rights in the Philippines” delved into the significant role of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in ensuring accountability for human rights violations globally, with a specific focus on its relevance to the Philippines.
Another engaging session featured SK Chairperson Ezra Ananayo discussing House Bill 9428, facilitating discussions on indigenous rights and land claims within the city. This episode directly addresses the CICM advocacy for indigenous people’s advocacy and justice by exploring the connections between legislation, indigenous rights, and youth empowerment.
Episode 4 saw a shift towards celebrating the impact of volunteerism and collective action in driving positive change. Participants shared inspiring stories of community engagement, highlighting the transformative power of volunteer efforts.
Through these enlightening episodes, the SULYAP Lecture Series continue to provide a platform for engaging discussions and actions that contribute to advancing justice, peace, integrity of creation, and indigenous people’s advocacy aligning with SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions by emphasizing the importance of holding individuals accountable for grave human rights abuses and SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, by advocating for just policies and promoting inclusivity within communities to foster meaningful dialogue and action on crucial issues, paving the way for a brighter and more inclusive future.
