The Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants – Saint Louis University (JPIA-SLU) conducted a make-up class, “JPIA: Close the Gap,” specifically for fourth-year Accountancy and Management Accounting students on 13, 14, 18, and 25 March 2026 at the Audio Visual Room, Fr. Serafin Devesse Building, SLU Maryheights Campus.
The event gathered determined students who actively participated in the sessions, demonstrating their commitment to catch up on missed academic discussions due to class suspensions. The initiative aimed to bridge learning gaps by revisiting essential topics and reinforcing key concepts crucial for their academic and personal preparation.

Building on this objective, the program covered several key subject areas under the Accountancy and Management Accounting curriculum, facilitated by esteemed faculty members who shared their expertise and insights with the participants. The sessions featured esteemed professors from the Department of Accountancy, each addressing key topics identified by the students as challenging.
On 14 March, Mr. Marc Oliver B. Castañeda, CPA, PhD, facilitated the ACREV 422 – Updates in Advanced Financial Accounting and Reporting session, providing an in-depth discussion of business combinations to help students better understand complex accounting treatments and consolidation procedures. This was followed on 18 March, led by Mr. Ernesto T. Tangalin, Jr., CPA, for ACREV 426 – Updates in Auditing, focusing on essential concepts such as audit evidence, audit sampling, and audit documentation, which helped students review key audit processes. Meanwhile, on the same day, Mr. Joseph R. Mendoza, CPA, MBA, led the discussion on Management Services, focusing on relevant costing and equipping students to further strengthen their analytical thinking and apply appropriate techniques to solve problems. This was also discussed during an online session on 25 March, with Sir Mendoza as the facilitator.

The program supported SDG 4: Quality Education by providing students with the necessary academic intervention to bridge learning gaps caused by class suspensions. By revisiting challenging topics, it ensured that participants remained on track with their curriculum. Furthermore, through the CICM’s advocacy of Integrity of Creation, it fostered a sense of responsibility and personal growth, encouraging students to develop their skills with integrity and excellence.

The JPIA: Close the Gap initiative successfully empowered fourth-year Accountancy and Management Accounting students to overcome learning gaps, reinforcing essential concepts and fostering academic confidence. Through dedicated sessions led by the DOA faculty, students not only revisited challenging topics but also strengthened their analytical skills and commitment to excellence. By providing targeted support and nurturing personal growth, the program ensured that students remain on track and prepared for future academic success. (Article and Photos by JPIA-SLU)
