Saint Louis University’s (SLU) third–year BA Communication students, Batch Gamma, of the School of Teacher Education and Liberal Arts (STELA), launched Project Responsible Information Powers People to Lead and Empower (RIPPLE), with the theme “Raising Future Generations through Stories, Creativity, and Critical Thinking,” in partnership with the Baguio City Public Library (BCPL), in line with Project Median and Information Literacy Advocacy Network (MILAN), on 17 October 2026 at the BCPL Reading Area.
In line with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’s (UNESCO) Media and Information Literacy (MIL) Week, with the theme “We All Play a Part – Media and Information Literacy for the People”, Project RIPPLE is part of the series of events organized by Batch Gamma under their major subjects COM 312 and COM 315. This particular event aimed to equip elementary and secondary students with the core essential skills in MIL.

To start the event, Block A of Batch Gamma focused on simplifying the importance of MIL to elementary students through interactive storytelling. Entitled “Bunganga, Ipis, at Isip,” the story revolves around Keith and his mother as he starts to have irrational thoughts from the videos he watched online. Through the guidance of his mother, Keith was reminded not to believe all the information that he watches online.
Keeping this lesson in mind, the kids were then given a chance to apply their newfound knowledge with their creativity through a bookmark-making activity, games, and a showcase of the bookmarks they made.

Immediately after, Block B took over the space to accommodate junior and senior high students, focusing on strengthening their foundational skills in MIL through interactive and practical activities that let the participants examine, evaluate, and rewrite presented information.
Activities include discerning headlines as newsworthy or sensationalized, rewriting sensationalized headlines, and a quiz bee that synthesizes their learning.
Overall, the event served as one of the initiatives of the BA Communication to bring MIL to the locality, strengthening the core United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) that guide Project MILAN: SDGs 4 (Quality Education) specifically 4.3 (Lifelong learning measures), 4.3.1 (Open Educational Resources) and 4.3.2 (Academic outreach). The initiative also aligned with 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). It upholds the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP) JEEPGY framework, which promotes Justice and Peace, Ecological Integrity, Engaged Citizenship, Poverty Alleviation, Gender Sensitivity, and Youth Empowerment, while embodying SLU’s core values of Christian spirit, compassion, competence, and innovation.
