The Department of Science and Technology, Science Teacher Academy for the Regions under the Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI STAR) trainers from Saint Louis University were tapped by DOST-Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) to train the region’s math and science teachers. Elementary, junior high school, senior high school, and tertiary-level teachers participated in the seminar-workshop, “STEMming the Challenges of S&T Teachers in the Cordillera Administrative Region,” held from November 17 to 18, 2022, via Zoom and Facebook live.
The successful two-day event is a collaborative effort of DOST-CAR, DepEd-CAR, and SLU-School of Teacher Education and Liberal Arts (STELA) under the leadership of Dr. Nancy Bantog, Dr. Estela Carino, and Dr. Felina Espique, respectively. The topics and workshops on writing for mathematics and science were facilitated by Ms. Dorothy Silva, Ms. Majal Rani Espiritu, Ms. Ferina Peralta, Ms. Ruby Jane Anamong, Mr. Marlon Palbusa, and Mr. Wilfred Bambico.
The math and science teachers of the region were assisted in their challenges in the educational community through a series of workshops on language strategies in teaching math and science. A set of outputs from them enriched their lesson planning on how to focus on building vocabulary, composing with keywords, stating knowledge, defining terms, and accomplishing profiles and frames as a teaching strategy.
