The Department of Science and Technology–Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) celebrated its 3rd DOST-SEI Project STAR International Conference with the theme, “Project STAR @10: Celebrating Gains of the Past, Exploring Opportunities of The Future.” It was held last 23-25 August 2023 at New World Hotel, Makati, Philippines. Participants of the conference include the regional trainers of DOST-SEI Science Teacher Academy for the Regions (STAR).
Saint Louis University (SLU), as the STAR partner in the Cordillera Administrative Region, was represented by Ms. Ferina Peralta, a faculty from the School of Accountancy, Management, Computing, and Information Studies (SAMCIS), and Ms. Dorothy D. Silva, the Head of the Professional Education Department of SLU-School of Teacher Education and Liberal Arts (SLU-STELA), who was one of the workshop speakers.
Together with Prof. Majal Rani O. Espiritu of SLU, Ms. Silva discussed “Teaching Habits of Mind Through Inquiry-Based Learning (IBL),” which focused on using IBL in promoting critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication. The workshop participants included DepEd Supervisors, as well as DepEd and Philippine Science High School mathematics and science teachers.
This event is a collaborative effort of DOST-SEI Project STAR and Saint Louis University as its partners in the Cordillera Administrative Region under the leadership of Dr. Josette Biyo and Rev. Fr. Gilbert B. Sales, CICM, respectively. Recognition is also extended to Dr. Mary Pauline E. Namoca, the Dean of SLU-STELA and Dr. Felina P. Espique, the Vice President for Academic Aaffairs of SLU, for their continuous support to DOST-SEI Project STAR.
