Saint Louis University joined the Resilience 101 Training organized under the Resilient Local Government Unit Program. This two-day capacity-building initiative is part of the broader Adopt-A-City program led by the National Resilience Council and took place at the Rizal Hotel, Legarda Road, Baguio City, on 9 to 10 November 2023.
The primary objectives of the training included the establishment of the local resilience council for the city; the integration of resilience vision and priorities into various city programs, projects, and activities; and the enhancement of participants’ understanding of basic risk concepts, including hazards, exposures, vulnerability, and capacity. Furthermore, the training introduced evidence-based and risk-informed resilience approaches focusing on Leadership and Governance and Science and Technology.
SLU’s involvement in this initiative aligns with its commitment to strengthening the Resiliency and Sustainable Development Goals program. The university’s participation reflects the institution’s dedication to the CICM Advocacy of Justice, Integrity of Creation, and Indigenous Peoples’ Apostolate, as well as its alignment with UNSDGs 3: Good Health and Well-being, 13: Climate Action, and 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure.
The program not only facilitated knowledge-sharing opportunities but also promoted collaboration among participants to realize Baguio City’s resilience vision. Dr. Joselito C. Gutierrez, the Executive Assistant to the President of SLU; Atty. Shellah Yzanne P. Merced, Vice President for Administration; Dr. Ann P. Opina, Dean of School of Nursing, Allied Health and Biological Sciences (SONAHBS); Mrs. Charmaine P. Mendoza, Director of Community Extensions and Outreach Programs Office (CEOPO); and Mr. Laurence Navalta, Safety Officer of CPMSD, represented the university at the event.
By actively engaging in this initiative, SLU aims to make its Sustainable Development Goals and Laudato Si Activities more dynamic and impactful for the university, its stakeholders, and the community it serves.
