Steadfast in its mission of building a sustainable society and concretizing the Congregation of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (CICM) advocacy on Integrity of Creation, Saint Louis University (SLU), through the Office of the University President, held an online orientation on 24 January 2025 about the Coastal Underwater Resource Management Actions (CURMA) project.
The facilitators of the CURMA program were Mr. Patrick Andrew Andrada, Training and Development Manager of Curma; Mr. Koushik Subramanian, Program and Sustainability Manager at Curma. The said orientation was attended by the student leaders and members of the Young Council of Ecolodians, Mrs. Charmaine P. Mendoza, Director of SLU Community Extension and Outreach Programs Office , and Dr. Joselito C. Gutierrez, the Head of the SLU Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Binnadang Center and Executive Assistant to the SLU President.
CURMA is based in San Juan, La Union and is dedicated to marine turtle conservation. They offer a range of volunteering opportunities for Louisians as well as opportunities to strengthen SLU’s SDG14 Life Below Water programs.
This first engagement with CURMA, in partnership with the Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency (PNVSCA), will provide an exciting experience for Louisian volunteers to have first-hand experiences in protecting marine turtles.
Anticipated future events include on-site and hands-on training in caring for Mother Earth. These initiatives align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 13 (Climate Action) and 17 (Partnership for the Goals). (Article by J.Gutierrez)
