Saint Louis University School of Engineering and Architecture (SLU SEA) won the Best Paper Award during the second Physical Internet National Symposium held on 28 November 2024 at the De La Salle University in Manila. This event brought together experts, academics, and industry professionals to discuss the future of the internet and its impact on various sectors in the Philippines.
The Best Paper Award was received by Engr. Maria Corazon Ocampo for her paper titled, “The Potential of Physical Internet and Blockchain in Enhancing Urban Logistics: A Baguio City Perspective.” The research was recognized for its significant contribution to improving internet access and connectivity in Baguio City. She also received special commendation for its practical applications and potential impact on improving internet access, optimizing empty spaces of sari-sari stores and private vehicles in the city.
The said paper was also a preliminary step to include a blockchain system which will be completed in the second semester, AY 2024-2025. The co-authors of the paper include Dr. Prince Edike, Nicole B. Comesario, Delia Ann E. Domigyay, Ericca Mae T. Emperador, Ivan A. Famularcano, Klaeede L. Kub-aron, Pedro Fernando F. Maranan, Samuel Rophi M. Nepomuceno, Julie Christine C. Pindug,Bill Nelson B. Tacodand Samuel Jacob R. Tuvera.
The 2024 Physical Internet National Symposium focused on the theme “Digital Transformation and Connectivity,” highlighting the importance of a robust and inclusive internet infrastructure for the country’s development. Keynote speakers included Dr. Benoit Montreuil of Georgia Institute of Technology and Tadashi Mizutani of Nomura Research Institute, who shared their insights on the global logistics framework known as the Physical Internet.
Throughout the day, participants engaged in various sessions and workshops covering topics such as digital innovation, cybersecurity, and the role of the internet in education and healthcare. The event also featured panel discussions on the challenges and opportunities in achieving a fully connected Philippines, aligned to “Enhancing Internet Connectivity in Rural Areas through Innovative Technologies.” Attendees had the opportunity to network with international peers and thought leaders, fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange.
The 2nd Philippine Internet Symposium underscored the critical role of the internet in driving economic growth and social progress which is aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 4 (Quality Education), 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth, and 17 (Partnership for the Goals).
